Street Sense AND Hard Spun going to Darley Stud

Postby bdw0617 » Sat Jun 02, 2007 5:08 pm

Breeding rights were sold a couple of days ago, just made public today. Confirmed by HRTV via Tefel and CN

Supposed to race for the rest of the year... we will see

No big shock...Darley is now solidifying their breeding base here in the states. And why not do it by buying the son and Derby winner by one of their stallions....

I had heard rumblings about Hard Spun but didn't believe it. That one is a little bit of a surprise.
Don't be so humble - you are not that great.

Several years ago, I went to Gainsborough when Elusive Quality and Quiet American were still there. There were numerous empty barns and I asked innocently "What do they plan to do with all this?" The answer: "They want to fill them with stallions."

I think the breeding community was just put on alert that there is a new sheriff in town.

I'll say this for Darley, they're not afraid of stallions with classic bloodlines or who can excel at 9 furlongs and beyond. If they bring more of that influence on American bloodlines, I say more power to 'em.

Like I said in my earlier post, they are solidifying their breeding base here. Perhaps they are thinking long term...breed them here, race them here. Maybe they are changing their tack on how to win the Derby....Darley dominated the Euro classics and they are looking to dominate the classics here. Just my two cents. :D

I'm not sure that the folks at Ashford are very happy right now - part of what makes all this worthwhile for Sheikh Rattlenroll.

wouldn't that go against his whole thing about Dubai being the equine center of the world? Doesn't he ship ALL his horses back to Dubai for the winter to train?

What I don't get.. what i REALLy don't get.. is if he really wanted to win the derby, all he has to do is move the Dubai world cup day or the UAE derby either UP a month, or back behind the triple crown. it's horrible timing.. the end of march, barely enough time to recoup after the trip.

We shall see if that is ever done (changing the dates of Dubai World Cup and UAE Derby). But for now, Darley is building its empire of studs here in the states and will be a force to reckon with.
