Sires that are failing on the new surfaces

Postby Rokeby Forever » Fri Jun 22, 2007 11:03 am

Everyone is scrambling to figure out which sires have offspring that perform well on Polytrack and/or Synthetics, but is there any data on sires whose offspring have shown they simply don't like the new stuff?

OUt of the top 100 earners on Equineline.com, the following "bigname" sires have performed under 10% winners (all over 100 starts).

Thunder Gulch, Cherokee RUn, Quiet American, Silver Deputy

3 best are Danzig, Cozzene and BElong to me although the first two have small sample of runners

I heard Skip Away's offspring were doing well.

I hope that continues to be the case. I'm on the fence about Poly/Cushion/Tapeta, etc., but I'd like to see Skip Away find a good niche. Despite his success on the track, he hasn't been given very good opportunities at stud.

You know, I panicked when the changes first happened and weighted all my matings with poly front and center. I think if the statistics show anything, is that there hasn't been a universal "liking" by any one sire line... yet.

In my opinion, its a good thing to breed versatility into a horse, but I wish the numbers were a little more uniform at this time.
