are these GREAT horses?

Postby bdw0617 » Sun Jul 08, 2007 12:54 am

Do these horses deserve to be ranked in the top 100 of all time?

1. Oujia Board
2. Lava Man
3. invasor
4. Rags to Riches

Who's currently #100? That's the only way to judge.

Caveat -- I read and was answering the "are these great horses" portion of that post. Even though I quoted it, I did not read or process the "do they belong in the top 100" part. Those are two seperate questions with different answers. They'd all be "no" to the second question.

Roke, I want to say Sysonby was #100 off that Bloodhorse list, but I'm not certain. Let me go digging... I know I have the list here somewhere.

eta

My mistake. Sysonby was #30. Blue Larkspur was #100

Here's the list if anyone is interested.

Thank you, Sam.

It's so hard to compare talent from era to era. How can anyone compare a horse like Sysonby to either a Lava Man or Invasor? It's impossible!

It's fair to ask what horses were great and what horses weren't. But how can you compare a horse like Exterminator to Forego? You can't - and ranking them is based on blind opinion since nobody alive either saw or remembers Man o'War. Could Kelso have beaten him? Who knows.

Comparing horses of today, I think Invasor is a great horse. Triple Crown in South America, dominant in the US, and he won the Dubai Cup. What else could he have done? Lava Man clearly needs his beach air...he's not "great."

I think it would be more fair to ask who are the top 20 or so horses of the last 25 years. Ouija Board would definitely make that list for me. Lava Man might, as might Invasor (though, I'd probably rank Pleasantly Perfect over Invasor). I've not made up my mind about Rags and I don't know if she'll honestly be given the chance to race up to it.

That's not entirely correct, nor is it a fair statement. He doesn't need his track because he's won at all three of the major CA tracks on 3 different surfaces. I'd say he needs his state more than he needs his track. Easy Goer wasn't much outside of NY, either.

i don't go by necessary who I think can be who.. I go by what they accomplished.

I think all 4 should be on there. All 4 have done things that no or very little horses have done before.

Ojuia Board would be in my top 50.. Invasor would be in the top 75... Rags as of now would be around 80th and Lava Man would be the last couple that made it

If I had to judge "greats" in the last 25 years (since 1982), I'd select Alysheba, Sunday Silence, Go For Wand, Ouija Board, Miesque, Pebbles, and ONLY because he won 16 straight, I'd be forced to add Cigar. Did John Henry race in 1982? If so, he's got to be added. Today, it's Invasor.

I'm not a Rags fan, but I'll give her a chance - if she can beat the older fillies, she might then be considered "great." Ruffian never beat older fillies, but Ruffian was Ruffian.

Sam, I wrote that Lava Man "clearly needs his beach air." Where did you come up with racetrack? C'mon! LOL!

You've discovered and mastered the art of editing and rephasing your posts without people realizing it.

You wrote racetrack. You and I both know it. You then went in and edited it to "beach air" without realizing that I had already quoted it and was in the process of responding. You also added the bit about Invasor and his S. American triple crown after the fact. I'd not yet responded to that either but I did see the post in it's original form. The only time the little "last edited" note is added to a post is if it is no longer the last post in the thread.

So stop acting like you didn't edit your posts and hoped no one was watching. I see all, fool. I can tell when you edit your stuff even when know one else can.

How do I do that? I'm glad you give me this much credit. You hear that, gang? Sam has written that I've mastered an art that I'm not even aware of...and we were just discussing greatness! LOL!

Better hurry and reply...I might edit this.

Again, so long as you are the last post in a thread, you can edit it as often as you like and no one would be the wiser unless they'd already see the original version. You've been doing it for weeks. The only reason you got caught is because you edited it while I was responding -- which means I had your original version before your edit.

Give it a rest. You got caught, own up to it or just shut up. Don't start another pissing match over something this stupid.

The above post was started at 2:09 and posted at 2:12. Had you edited your post anytime in those 3 minutes, Roke, no one but me would have known because I had the original in my reply screen.

THAT is precisely why I encourage people to quote you whenever they respond to you because you bank on it taking at least 3 minutes to compose and post a response -- so you have those 3 minutes to change your post at will. You're as bad as our RR who will edit her posts 5+ times in under an hour.
