F/T Sale

Postby 20dourmdd » Tue Jul 17, 2007 5:45 pm

Just got back from the Fasiz-Tipton sale...

My favorite was hip #416 Bay colt by Street Cry. Had excellent bone, nicely muscled, good balance.

#2 favorite hip #430 filly by Pulpit. She was on stilts...16+, good muscle and balance...wait on her a little...WOW

so did you end up buying that street cry 416? saw it only went for 12K, wondering what was wrong with him...
overall, it appeared to be a bloodbath for quite a few of the breeders.
it was also interesting that coolmore bought none and darley only bought one.

I am kind of a spur of the moment person...was planning to go, but I had horse issues at home with getting a two yr. old out to ILL., a foal that was running a fever, a mare to get to Pa. A horse at the track that we haven't been able to get in a race for his condition etc. So, I told my wife that we were off to the sale just to get away.

Any observations on the offspring of the following big-name first crop sires: Medaglia D'Oro, Speightstown and Strong Hope.

I think the female family was too weak...watch out for him to be a great pinhook at a two year old in training sale. No, I didn't buy him...too many of my own that need to put some $$ in my pocket instead of everyone except me. I really like to see what yearlings look like, take some pictures, and compare body types to my own horses. Plus I learn something everytime I get a chance to talk to horsemen.

I used the time to go see a man about breaking a two yr. old, and got to go to Buckpond to see a Morluc yearling since I have a baby of his from one of my mares. They always make me feel that I am important to them as a small breeder.

Hip #34 Sold for $200K, saw her in the ring,(Medaglia); the very next Hip 35 was a Speightstown ($170K Not Sold)...The Medaglia sold good I thought, but I am not a commercial breeder. Speightstown's didn't sell like I thought, but you would have to look at female families and the horses that were at the sale. I didn't see all of them at the barns when they were showing. The Lion Heart yrlgs. were getting a lot of attention and the prices showed. They had families and were all nicely constructed. I did get to look at all of those back at the barns. The Storm Cat stallions, I looked at most of those yrlgs. People were all over the Lion Hearts.
