I had to put down my first foal ever on Wed., and it wasn't easy, but she was suffering too much...Had a hole in the messentary connective tissue that holds the intestine which the intestine went back through and looped cutting it off. The vet said that it was a birth defect, and as it started to eat more grass, hay, grain, etc. the opening was too small for movement causing colic of the extreme. Anyone ever experience something like this with a foal that was going on 4 months old.
I know that others have had foals die, but this is the first ever for me with any of my horses, and I have been doing this for 17yrs. I am sure going to miss the little girl (By Alladin Rib out of Coach's Dream) She was my little Spy Song connection. He is quite old and not breeding many mares.
