Locating TBs family

Postby mckjab1 » Sat Dec 18, 2004 10:43 am

:?:
In May of 2004 I was checking out horse sale internet sites. I ran across alot for free. but one seemed to get my attention. thoroughbred mare free to good home. it was nothing impressive. But I called and the person on the other end said that tomorrow she is going to slaughter. and I assured her that I would take her and not to send her there. she agreed to wait until I could arrange transportation. So when she showed up my heart fell through the ground. The mare was a shadow of a horse. she looked like a giant bone with skin on it. her head dragged the ground and was all scraped up from the ground. she had wormers, sicker than anything, rain rot all over her back and down her legs, thrush in all four hooves, and that was just for starters. We put her in her stall where her feed bucket was already filled, fresh water, mineral salt block, an apple block, hay bag filled with fresh hay, and straw 1 1/2 feet deep. the next day we bought a thicker fly blanket. She spent the first week in the lean to during the day. we did not know what to do. so we went to a horse sale. found a filly under a year that was also in bad shape( someone had taken blood out of her under her head, to make her docile). we put the 2 together. then the most amazing thing happened. my thoroughbred went from bones weighing only 550 pounds at 16.2 hands tall to 1200 pounds in less than 5 months. now she looks like all the thoroughbred pictures you see. her standing tall and full of life. So I decided I wanted to try to find out what her family was and to my surprise this free thoroughbred was a decendant of NASHUA, the world champion. So now I am trying to find out any information on my horses family and there locations. I already looked on this site by no information. if anyone can help out there please do so. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

You should google her name.. i found two references to sales horses

48 GAMMY'S GIRL, m, 20, by Due Diligence—Turn to Penny, by Turn to Reason (Do It Again Dan). (Thomas J. Gallo and Nadine Gallo , agent), Charles A. Woodson Jr...........$3,500

Good for you for stepping up and saving this dear old girl. From her catalogue page it looks like she was more than generous to her previous owners, what a shame she ended up the way she did.

What a beautiful story. Michelle, people like you make me lose some of my cynicism about the world. You and Gammy's Girl both deserve a lot of holiday cheer!

I have found www.equineline.com to be a great source of information. You have to pay for each report but the prices are reasonable and you'll find out some pretty cool things.

Gammy's Girl

I am the lucky one to get gammy's girl. if she had been in good health there would of been no way I could buy her, she is worth to much. But thank you for all the kind words. eventually I would like to get a bigger parcel of land and rescue more horses that need help. thank you everyone.

I just got teary reading this thread.
You should be so incredibly, terribly proud of yourself! And also feel very fortunate that you were able to trace her history

Shout from the rooftops, mckjab! This is one heck of a success story!

Hmmm ... I remember her daughter Gammy's Alden. She was quite a good stakes horse in the early 90's.

I looked at the first link supplied in that first reply and see that this is the same female family as several champions, including Belmont Stakes winner Jaipur.

can you believe where she was heading? some people don't seem to get it. just because a horse is old don't mean its useless. I wish I could just slap people like that you know?
does anyone know where any of the others are right now?
