He has got to be the underrated stallion of the year with Laywer Ron, Jambalaya and many other very good stakes winners. Is there another one out there standing for $25000 live foal with his credentials??

I don't see him going up though. Langfuhrs don't sell well. None sold in either select sale so far and last year you had a $37,000 median on a $25,000 stud fee. Out of the 54 offered, 22 either sold or RNA'd for less than his stud fee. With stats like that, you've got to be thinking "breed to race" since you probably will be, but then you've got to look at his fee and figure on the odds of having a horse worth at least $75,000 as a racehorse. $25,000 is really getting to the outer fringes of what I'd call breed to race when you could take his fee and buy nearly half of the yearlings offered and you didn't have the extra year into the horse.

Sysonby - why do you think that is (about the yearlings not selling well)? Do they really look that terrible as yearlings? I haven't seen that many Langfuhr yearlings but they haven't been bad at all. He's obviously giving the breeder a lot of value especially compared to some other ... overpriced individuals

I guess he's the horse to go to if you are breeding to race. He's going to be the His Majesty of his generation. Have horses that can run and win, at all levels, that can run for several years, make money. Yet the powers that be in the breeding industry don't like him in the sale ring.

Go figure. He's the type of horse we need more of.

I like Langfuhr, but he gets a lot of horses who cant get out of their own way. I'm really not sold on him as a broodmare sire.

His best daughter, Imperial Gesture, will have a Kingmambo colt next year. Should be interesting to see how she does as a broodmare since she comes from a very solid family and was a very good race horse herself.

His son, Lang Field, just won the Grade I Citation Hdcp. How many stakes winners has he sired this year? How many graded stakes winners has he sired this year? How many Grade I stakes winners has he had this year?

People looking at a stallion to breed to sell or pinhook are looking for "consistency". I have seen foals sell for high five figures to a $1000. So my estimate is he doesn't throw a consistent looking foal and/or the mare side is weak. When he does throw a good one it's very good but buyers are not willing to take that chance. JMO!!

Proud Spell is a pretty nice filly. I'm hoping Langfuhr becomes a good broodie sire!

Langfuhr is a horse that is a good producer of race horses. On average however he has late runners therefore late winners. As everyone is always looking for the early runners or so it seems i guess that would be off putting to some. He was a fantastic race horse, who had a ton of speed. Capturing the Met Mile and Carter Handicap. I have looked at a number of his youngsters and they aren't flashy but to me very strong looking workman type horses. . He has produced some fantastic horses.. even in the likes of Mobile & Wando although neither did well in the U.S. Both are extremely good looking & both sound horses like their father.. although Mobile was truly "an iron horse". Its a shame neither had success in the U.S. Although he certainly has had his share of successful horses on both sides of the border.

if i was looking at the big picture & down the road, not the fast turn over without a doubt i would use him. Even though we breed to sell (we are very tiny) i considered using him this year but he is out of our price range.

As far as him as a broodmare sire i don't see that he has made much of a mark there to date anyway.

I agree his great value for what he stands for. He is proven & to me just seems like a real steady eddy!!

Langfuhr has 14 Graded stakes winners.

Gulch has 29 Graded stakes winners and currently stands for $20,000. Pleasant Tap has 19 Graded stakes winners and stands for $25,000.

I thought Holy Bull made the cut, but he has only 13 Graded stakes winners at $15,000. I can't think of anyone else.
