Thats so sad to hear. Fort Erie is such a beautiful track, it has always been my favorite to go to and just relax and enjoy the horses. Hopefully they will get things figured out. Guess I better catch up on my reading and find out whats going on.

They have a lot of work to do. Im not a very picky guy but it was a disgrace. They didnt even have tables for people there with horses in the stake races.

Gerry, you asked about Evangeline Downs. EVD is located in the heart of Cajun country, Opelousas, about 16 miles north of Lafayette, Louisiana. EVD has been in operation for about 40 years. Originally it was located in Lafayette, but the people in the Parish voted down slots so they moved north to St. Landry Parish and built a brand new track with slots. Because of the increased purses and the best Breeders awards in the country I moved my whole operation to Louisiana even though I live in OKlahoma. The state now has 4 tracks so you have year round racing. They just sold at auction a La. accredited yearling for $330K, the highest ever paid for a La. yearling. IMO Louisiana is the place to be in the next 3 or 4 years.

If you ever get South be sure to visit EVD. There is nothing like Cajun hospitality and wonderful Cajun food.:D

I remember a time when shippers running at LA Downs would get pushed over the fence down the backstretch. LOL!

Gerry - since larrygene already told you where EV is, may I just add that the place has more atmosphere then should be legal!! It really is a fun track. And Larrygene may I add that the MUSIC is good too! And yes, that is the Erie County landfill under that mountain next door.

Wilf - didn't mean to be brutal. Like I said, they really needed another month to get ready. In their defense, the weather wasn't always the best for construction this last spring. (and fall) I'm sure that slowed them down. AND, I do plan on being there after the opening rush. I will support the track since I was a big mouth about getting one in Erie again.

In hindsight , going for a month trial run in an area filled with live tracks , Mountaineer, Thistledown, Fort Erie, Finger Lakes is asking for some problems as the operation needs to give employees some sense of longevity if it is to recruit experienced staff for the likes of mutual clerks, starting gate crews, pony people etc, and obviously it's not there , however next year I am sure that the recruiting can be aggressive enough to provide a complete service. I hope to take a jaunt down there tomorrow to get a feel of it all. I may even drop into the Seneca Reservation tack store and load up on needed vitamins and topical stuff in Irving NY.
