It's a shame that Dynever went to Saudi Arabia. However, I think one reason that Dynaformer sons have not done well at stud is because so many of them were gelded. It's hard to be a good sire if you don't have the equipment. Perfect Drift being the obvious example, Mystery Giver another one. If this new high priced one that Rokeby has gone all John Travolta about has a great female family then I have high hopes. I believe Purim is going to be retired to stud for the coming year. Then of course we have Nicanor, but that would be too good to be true. I can only think of a few other Dynaformers currently at stud, Dynameaux in Texas, Final Markdown, and one of his very early ones who definitely did not perform, Blumin' Affair.
Dynaformer is already up there on the broodmare sire list with his highest earner being Hollywood Story. And remember that several of his millionaires have been mares - e.g. Riskaverse, Film Maker, etc.
And finally he's not done producing yet - he's just ornery enough to go on for a few years yet and I hope he does.
I haven't seen a lot of Dynaformer yearlings so maybe they are coarse, but I certainly didn't consider Barbaro at three a coarse looking horse. I thought he was striking.
As far as precocity goes, I would not say that Dynaformer quite emulates Pleasant Tap. He does get two year old winners. What's more his trademark I would say is durability. The oldest Dynaformer I know that's currently running is Intern, still winning 5k claimers and placing in starter allowances at age 11, and he seems to love it. Team Block said the same about Mystery Giver when they retired him a few weeks ago, he still wanted to be in on the action, but at 9 years old and clearly not the horse he once was, they were afraid he might hurt himself.
As far as I know Dynaformers are frequently fiesty, but not as nasty as the old man himself, and I believe I heard somewhere that Dynaformer had some kind of bad experience as a young horse that contributed to his temper.
Dirt, turf, young, old, males, females, Dynaformer can do it all - and don't forget the Steeplechase. Whatever you want to say about him he's been a success story. A great sire from him would be the cherry topping.
Can you tell I'm a fan?
