Me too. How much could it cost to euthanize the poor thing!

His punishment should be to bury him alive in a shallow grave for a few minutes and see how he likes it. Then he should get jail time and a huge fine. What an idiot.

I agree, he couldn't afford to euthanize the horse???

Once again, I am confronted by the fact that many people suck. :( It makes me despair to wonder about all of the poor animals that no one ever found out about...

Glad the construction worker had more humanity than the owner.

What makes it even worse is that he may only be charged with a misdemeanor... he should have been arrested, thrown in jail and charged on the spot!

It always amazes me that people can get away with things like this with such small concequences that it seems to not even amount to a hand slap. The courts need to up the penalitys and take this stuff more seriously. We had a judge in this area that gave animal abusers commuinty service hours in the humane society??!!

Very much so Geowarrior.

And what is so sad is very few actually care.
They'll tsk* tsk*, shake their heads for a couple of days, or express outrage - but that's it.

Interestingly, two details were left out of this article.

1. There was another mare that animal control confiscated and removed to a rescue.

2. Two more seemingly healthy horses were left in the owner's care.

I know this because I'm a member on another board, where one of those board members is close friends with the woman who owns the rescue that took the confiscated mare.

I saw this on the local news the other night! Just unbelievable. That's not too far from me, either.
