Open to suggestions...

Postby BridledObsession » Mon Sep 17, 2007 10:49 am

OK.....I think you have to be pretty brave to ask everyone's opinion but here goes....... :D

Our mare did not get in foal this year. We are looking for ideas for next season. We're in PA, breed to race and want to keep the stud fees low as we're just getting started.

She's a beautiful, petite mare and approximately 16 hands. She almost has an exotic, feminine look to her. At any rate, I like Unbridled Jet as I've been impressed with some of his offspring that we've seen lately. However, I want to keep an open mind :o .

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated! Her name is WeWe C.

Thanks again!

Note: I'm not a professional: these are just my opinions.

I love Delaware Township: he's a gorgeous horse. Of his SW so far, one is out of a Time for a Change mare, and others are out of Langfuhr and Rubiano mares. Your mare is already a great-granddaughter of Rubiano's sire Fappiano, so maybe you'd like to focus on the other lines. Do you want to stay *in* Pennsylvania with sires?

Also, her female line has produced a good SW from a Buckpasser line stallion with stamina lines (out of Alleged mare, with close-up strains of Nashua and Prince John). I do like Erewhon, a stallion by Kingmambo in KY that stands for $3,500, and is from the same female line as that Buckpasser stallion. Especially because your mare is from a speedier pedigree, that might work well, since Erewhon's female line is more stamina oriented.

Some horses I do like in your fee range:
Cherokee's Boy (MD)
Great Notion (MD)

La Troienne,

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. I understand some of the basics, but that's about it!

We definitely don't need to stay *in* PA....although we just shipped 13 hours to breed and had a bad experience, I haven't ruled it out under the right circumstances in the future. Of course, closer is better

Thank you so much for your time. I'll check out the stallions you recommended.

If you aren't opposed to the possibility of a turf runner and would like a horse with more stamina, might I suggest Stage Colony? He stands at Buck Pond for (IMO a very low) $1,000. He's a son of Pleasant Colony out of the Stage Door Johnny mare Meteor Stage, and is a full brother to Breeder's Cup Juvenile fillies champion Pleasant Stage.

Actually, there are quite a few stallions at Buck Pond that fit your price range; you may want to check them out.

Look at Special Times, a Seeking The Gold, standing at Godstone Farm in Pine Grove, PA

He's a big correct 17 hh that that stamps his get like clones. google Godstone Farm to find their web site. They also have a new A.p Indy stallion.

Request For Parole

Postby hpkingjr » Tue Sep 18, 2007 5:47 am

Look at the new kid on the block, (and I know this is unproven to unproven), Gr 1 winner Request For Parole. He returns and sex balances the In Reality and Nodouble. Returns Northern Dancer, Roughn Tumble, and Bold Ruler and gives a triple of the blue hen Aspidistra. Cool pedigree and if you're going to race the baby? Why not?

I really appreciate all of the input. It definitely gives me alot to think about. There are so many stallions I would probably not have known about otherwise.

I'm surprised (pleasantly :) )at the number of quality choices in our price range and within a reasonable distance.

Thanks again.

Also, look at Limit Out who stands at NayLee in Summit Point, WV

The February Mid Atlantic Thoroughbred had him 80.1% winners from starters; 16% stakes placed and 10% stakes winners.

He's awsome. There were four stallions in the yard when I saw him and everyone was looking only at him.

Just curious - - - -what were the names of the other stallions in the yard at Naylee Farm when you were there? When was this?

They are all very nice stallions. I am at Naylee Farm just about every weekend. I make sure I go to see all the stallions, but one in particular ---Country Only. The people at Naylee are very personable with all the horses and provide great care for all of them. Check Country Only out the next time you go there.

arsvcs--did you sell Country Only or is Naylee leasing him from you? I think he is going to throw some very nice foals in the WV program.

No we did not sell Country Only. We have a great deal with Rene at Naylee Farm.

Yes, Country Only has 3 colts and 1 filly on the ground from test breedings. They are all large and correct. In fact his filly was in the Aug Mid-Atlantic, Country Rocks. It looks like he's going to be stamping his foals. We have alot of comments on the foals that he has now. Rene seems to feel that he will do really well in WV also.
