I am thinking of sending mares to LA for some LA bred foals in 2008. What stallions do you like/ dislike in LA? anyone hear any news of any new ones heading there for next year?

Good and Tough is a decent sort who will bring in a lot of speed. He started in New York and improved his mares there, no idea why he went to Louisiana unless his owners are trying to cash in on a fairly weak roster and slot money.

Sefapiano at Moon Lake is GREAT. Lots of good solid earners out of a wide variety of mares. They're fairly durable too.

What're the pedigrees of the mares?

aurora, I have two of the finest bred stallions in LA or for that matter in the USA and at a price you can afford. One is MUSTANG JOCK by Wild Again and the other is COUNTER PUNCH by Cozzene. Look them up in the PQ and you will find pics of both. I live in OKC and was just down in LA at Opelousas where they both stand. The babies by both are looking great. All are correct and good size. 2008 fee on JOCK will be $1,000 payable Sept 1 and PUNCH will be $750 payable by Sept. 1. If you have any more questions PM me. I promise if you do decide to breed to a LA stallion, please do yourself a favor and go look at both. You will see why everyone I have talked to that has a JOCK or PUNCH baby is very satisfied.

I really like a couple of young stallions in Louisiana in Rulers Court & Wildcat Shoes. RC was co top weighted 2 year old & would have been the fav in the BC Juv had he ran I think off his Norfolk romp. Murry Smith was always very high on this horse. I'm not a huge fan of his sire but I think he is a must use in La for 2k. WS was very fast with very good speed. He has a racehorse pedigree in being by Forest Wildcat & out of a not bigtime but very consistant racehorse producing family. I will be active at the Ky sales & claiming races for a fitting mare or two for RC. I like him that much that I figure I have to use him this next breeding season.

Aside from the obvious ones, take a look at Erlton (we've bred to him) and Almostashar. We have a 2yo filly by Almostashar and she sure looks the part. He's an AP Indy, inexpensive and if this filly is any indication - looks wise - I'd go to him certainly at his low price. She won first crack out of the box.

Erlton throws some nice foals too.

Not knowing your mares' pedigrees, here is one thought...for a breed-to-race play and if you wanted to go with a somewhat "proven" sire, My Friend Max is royally-bred (sired by Danzig, and out of A. P. Indy's dam line) and he is getting a high percentage of winners and stakes winners, track record setters, etc., and the guy who owns him bought him in Panama or somewhere? after observing the number of champions and stakes winners he was getting there. He doesn't have very many U.S. starters yet, but it seems they can really run. Since his runners hit the track in Louisiana, they are very competitive. I think two or maybe even three stakes winners this year out of just 17 starters. I might be wrong, but I think his average earnings per starter this year so far is about the best or close to it in LA. I am thinking of sending a mare to him...

There are quite a few stallions here, don't know much about them, but I've been out there and it seems to be a nice well run place for the most part. And yes Mr Hebert does go out at the feedings everday.

I have a blacktype graded stakes winner of $306,000.00.He is by Northern Jove and a winning and producing Graustark daughter Gemstone.He has only been bred to (9)with (5)starters (4)have won or hit the board.His best son won an allowance race last friday at Charles Town pushing his earning to $82,000.00. I love Good and Tough. I was looking to breed 2 mares to him in Ny last year and was very disappointed when he was moved to la. He is a beautiful hunk of horse flesh!

Also have liked Leestown...what a pedigree.

recently halped to secure a 3/4 brother to leading sire Posse. Raska Deputy is now in La. Nice horse who suffered an injury hence halting his racing career. very correct, solid build and a WHOLE bunch cheaper then his brother!!!! I dont have the info on the farm other then Volacity Farm located in Shreveport, la I think I have a number here if anyone would like it.

Hey Guys, looks like aurora has abandoned her question. All have given her some very good choices, but no reply. As an owner and breeder I'm very excited about what is going on in LA. The breeders program is second to none and the purses are fantastic!! It has never looked brighter for the owner and breeder of LA breds.

I predict there will be a stallion standing for $10K in LA in the next 5 years. Times are truly changing in LA.
