Surprised Rok hasn't jumped all over this one...

Seeking the Best, a group III stakes-winning millionaire by Seeking the Gold, will stand at Hill 'n' Dale in 2008, the Kentucky farm announced in a Sept. 28 release.
Seeking the Best is by leading sire Seeking the Gold out of the graded stakes winner Mackie, who sold as a broodmare for $5 million at the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale in 2000. He sold as a yearling at the 2002 Keeneland September yearling sale for $1 million to Kazuko Yoshida and raced in Japan, winning nine races and finishing second seven times from 21 career starts.
Seeking the Best retires with $1,803,353 earned in victories at distances from five to eight furlongs, including stakes races at seven and eight furlongs.
"We are extremely excited to introduce Seeking the Best to our Stallion roster," said John G. Sikura Jr., President of Hill 'n' Dale Farms.
"Seeking the Best hails from one of the most important female families in the stud book, being inbred to the legendary foundation mare La Troienne. Seeking the Best is by a terrific sire of sires and was a very fast racehorse. The fact that he was a million-dollar sales yearling, along with his looks, pedigree and performance, give him all the tools to become an outstanding sire."
Seeking the Best will stand for a fee of $7,500 live foal during the 2008 breeding season as the property of a syndicate.
Thoughts? I'm not sure I LOVE him and his race record left a lot to be desired and I can't help but question G3 Japanese quality.
Seeking the Gold is a solid sire of sires of the bread and butter type. This might be another one. Should be interesting if people go for the unknown quality of this horse or the stamina and abbreviated record of Jazil. Both have storied female families to make a case for them, although I'd argue Jazil's is a better stallion producer.

Gimme a chance - I was just knocking another post of yours'.
This horse may have been meant to be a monster on the dirt. Seeking The Gold can sire a top turfer (Seeking The Pearl, etc...), but, by and large, he's a "dirt sire."
Flitabout over Glowing Tribute....and a double dose of Buckpasser - give this horse Storm Cat's book and he'd be the leading sire for the next 20 years....unless the Poly pollutes the entire country.

Rokeby blood is the finest that can be found. Phipps blood is what the Mona Lisa is to art. Let's consider:
Over the last 10 years, how many Rokeby/Phipps stallions have been omnipresent? None. How has the breed fared in the last 10 years? It's collapsing. Put two and two together, Maven.

I think they will face the same stumbling block I have faced with Rocking Trick. Argentine or Japanese black type is not American black type. In the case of Seeking the Best, it is really worse because you usually divide the Japanese earnings by ten to get the comparable US earnings, and it is G3 not G1.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Japanese racing has came a LONG way. a Grade 3 in Japan is about a grade 2 here now. Japan attracts the best from Asia, India and Australa and sometimes even the middle east. the purses are the highest in the world.

female line has recently produced hero's honor, Congrats, Mozart, roar, yell, lite light, gaily egret, american boss, one of the most important fillies ever in allez france, honor in war, master command, lost soldier.. and that' recently.
Seeking the gold on the top is not a BAD thing. but this horse was a dirt horse if there ever was one.
a STEAL at 7500.

It's a terrific family, but you really have to break it up into branches.
As it sits, the Priceless Gem branch is responsible for Allez France, Al Mamoon, La Gueriere, Lost Soldier, Honor in War, Master Command, Lasting Approval, etc.
Wealth of Nations branch giving us Lite Light and other scattered stakes winners.
And then the Glowing Tribute line which is responsible for Hero's Honor, Congrats, Mozart, Roar, Yell, etc.
I've said before the stallions in this family are a little underrated, BUT, when Roar is your best candidate, especially with the stallions this family sees and the amount of class the mares in this clan have, I become leery of breeding to them.
Seeking the Best will be a good play for who want to breed commercially on a budget IF he has size. Most of the Seeking the Gold's are quite small and that will kill this horse if he is, commercially. His blacktype is not going to be respected, his sire isn't going to hurt him but it isn't going to improve his standing either, but the female family will be recognized.
I think a LOT of his commercial validity is going to depend on what Flatter does before they sell.

come on now maven.. mozart DIED prematurely. If i'm not mistaken, he was in a BC Juve race not too long ago. In his one year at stud he produced a couple of pretty good runners.
your best case against is probably hero's honor.. he's sired by the most important sire of the 20th century and produced little to nothing. but he wasn't HORRIBLE
I like the versatility of Seeking the Gold.. he can give you a world class Turf horse like Dubai Millennium, or he can give you a world class dirt horse like bob and john/wonderin boy.
However he's clearly more efficient on the dirt. If seeking the best were running in America on dirt, and went to stud.. what would his fee be? that's the question you should ask yourself.
I mean.. what more do you want? he has as much back pedigree as anyone, he's versatile and relativity inexpensive. and given the fact that like the previous poster said, you will probably get a hell of a deal because of the lack of understanding Japanese black type...
