That is the end of an era. The era of the iron horse, the great ones are all gone.

Long live JOHN HENRY...............

Race among the clouds and enjoy your eternity John. You will be missed.

Godspeed John, you were truly one of the all time greats. Now go challenge Secretariat to a match race.

Wow, I guess it for real. I responded to the earlier thread that appeared well before (think weeks) this great horse really died. My feelings are still the same.

I'm glad JH seemed to have a happier period in his old age, going for self-guided walks about the grounds and greeting people on the way and in the parades with apparent enjoyment. He sure deserved whatever pleasure he was able to glean from his existance, and he seemed to fight the disabilities that came with old age with as much bravery as he ever displayed on the track.

I'm happy that JH won't face another winter, with the cold weather that would aggravate his arthritis and the icey ground that would prevent the old guy from the walks around the farm that did his mind and body so much good. He did it right.

My best to the KHP staff and other folks that helped this old guy throughout his years and especially through his last days, weeks, and months when disability and other health issues threatened to make the old man miserable. Thanks for preventing his pain and ending it when it seemed to be too much to ask the gallant horse to face again.

Goodspeed, John Henry.

I am glad that he was able to have those daily outings before he died. He looked so happy and full of life in the pics. He was a blessing to all of us.

Somewhere, somewhere in time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some paradise where horses go,
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again.

Rest in peace, John Henry...

I feel honored to have gotten to meet you a few years ago at the Horse Park. I wish I had been around to see you race. You were truly magnificent and the epitome of what makes this sport great.
