Corinthian going to Gainesway

Just wondered what he may stand for. Any thoughts on that, after today!

How much does Tapit stand for? I would think they could stand Corinthian for more than him. Why would they want to bring in "competition" (another son of Pulpit) for a stallion they already stand?

I can see up to 30k. If they wanted to price him competitively, I would have him at 25k, though. Political Force at 15k is hard to ignore.

Gainesway is usually reasonable in their fee structure and I would imagine that they'll price Corinthian competitively to give him the best shot.

You know, it's on the high side of competitive but with that female family I can see where they're trying to go.

Did anybody else see their press release? That Corinthian is taking up the champion miler at Gainesway baton from Cozzene? Does that mean that Cozzene will be pensioned for next year?

Cozzene's days have to be numbered....if you were a three or four year old filly, would you want a date with him?

Corinthian is a terrific stallion prospect, but $40,000 might be high for him. Sky Mesa also comes from a terrific family, but his first crop didn't set the world on fire (even though his two year olds sold especially well), his yearling average dropped in half this year from 2006, and he's at $30,000. Essence Of Dubai is from a nice family, was a nice horse, and he's stuck in the swamp at $5,000. I think Stroll stands for a ham sandwich and a six pack.

Corinthian was ultra-impressive on Friday. They will certainly fill his book at that price.

By comparison, Silver Train won the Met Mile and stood for $25K. This horse would certainly be considered more marketable.

If Cozzene is in fact pensioned, he had a great run and is certainly worthy of much respect.

Wow, 40K seems a bit high to me, and I'd still go to Cozzene if he's standing next season. I saw Cozzene earlier this season and he still looked darn good!

I bred a mare to Cozzene last year, couldn't resist the great value. Even at his age she was in foal on one cover in early February.

I figure if Darley (who are often quite conservative with their pricing) stood Henny Hughes for $40K in his first year, Corinthian will be, at least, just as popular at that price.

You know, fillies don't have to actually LOOK at the stallion covering them. Close your eyes and think of Churchill....

Ham sandwich and a six pack is being generous. Forget the six pack.

Of all the Pulpits to go to stud, Corinthian has the most commercial "package" together. He's the only Pulpit who raced past 3 AND was a Gr-1 winner as an older horse AND has a notorious sire-producing family AND won a Breeders Cup. Purge is closest to that, with racing past 3 and a Gr-1 win as an older horse and a good family backing him, but no BC win and honestly he didn't have the sheer brilliance of Corinthian when Corinthian had his head screwed on properly.

Just so you know I think $40k is about $20k too high, but I can see exactly how they're going to spin him.

I'll breed one mare to him at 40k as opposed to the two I had originally planned when I was thinking he'd fall into the 20-30k.

To be honest, I was sort of hoping he wouldn't win the mile. :wink:

If anyone loves Cozzene and he retires next year I have I think the best bred son Of Cozzene standing today. His name is COUNTER PUNCH. His dam is by Storm Cat and she has produced two SW's, both won at 2 and won stakes at 2. Granted, PUNCH did not win a lot of money but in hindsight that could have been more my problem than his. We ran him long and looking back probably 6 or 7f was his best distance. PUNCH had lots of gas and had a great racing mind. Plus he is very correct with a great disposition. Standing for $750 is an absolute steal for this horse. Look at his pedigree and I'll put his up against any other Cozzene anywhere. I have all my mares bred to him this year.

By the way, I have another stallion, MUSTANG JOCK by Wild Again out of an Easy Goer mare that I think looks just as good as Corinthian. JOCK had a great racing mind. And I have always thought Corinthian was one of the most talented horses running. Easy goer mares are becoming some of the best broodmares in the world.
