Mr Sekiguchi to Hill n Dale

Postby Tesio » Tue Oct 30, 2007 7:16 pm

Just read this in Blood Horse.

He has been retired and will stand for $5K.

$8 Million at auction, $5K as a stallion.

So, what does that put the Green Monkey at?

16M sale price (debatable)

No wins from two starts

$500 with multiple mare discounts?
All men are equal on the turf - or under it.

I read somewhere that Coolmore is gonna stand The Green Monkey at stud in 2008.

He must, however, wear a condom.

Ahh yes.... Iron Eyes Cody the "fake" Indian. All to fitting to have a counterfeit Indian for a counterfeit horse. After all it's all about closing the sale as opposed to the truth all to often in both advertising as well as horse racing.

Didn't Tiger Ridge start out at 5k in Florida? He was a non-winner in 5 starts and a close relative to Mr. Sekiguchi.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Mr. Sekiguchi get SOME good runners (Tiger Ridge did), but I'm very shocked at who's standing him.

If I remember right, the first two crops of Tiger Ridge sold pretty damn well so if you're on a very tight budget you might be able to wheel and deal him down to 2.5k and take a gamble.

Who knows... there's a small chance you might look like a genius in a few years.

But wow... Hill n Dale... border-line shocking.
Don't be so humble - you are not that great.

Maven-

I think you might be right and I am considering making the inquiry for one of my mares. I have that same feeling although I didn't draw the Tiger Ridge analogy.

The only part I didn't like was Baffert's quote that he would have turned into something had he not been forced to the sidelines so early....

Hmmm...let's see. The last allowance class stallion to be retired to stud from this female family was...Kipling. Sire of BC winner Kip Deville. I guess he must be a joke too?

LB: One good runner does not make a home run stallion.
Even Saggy got a good runner (Carry Back)!

I do hope Kipling does well, but...

Kipling was sound enough to make 28 starts. Mr S made 4 and had to stop. You could breed to Kipling for around $1,000 when he went to stud so why should anyone be willing to fork over $5,000 to a son of Storm Cat, a family notorious for brevity? OTOH, Kipling comes from the Mr P lineage which have proven far more durable in comparison to the SC line.

Exactly!... Kipling is FAR from being a proven top sire even in the region...... in fact there are 4-5 studs I prefer over Kipling in the Ark-La-Tex.

Best thing that happened to KD was Dutrow buying him and keeping him on turf.
