WOW $5.75 Million for Round Pond

Postby madelyn » Sun Nov 04, 2007 2:40 pm

The hammer just fell at Fasig Tipton, it looked like a real sale (not an RNA). What is the highest price ever paid for a maiden broodmare prospect?

No, I just looked that up, but she was sold at Keeneland. And she had won $3.9 million. She was also full sibling to two other GSW's (Sunriver and Saint Stephen) and half to two other stakes horses. Round Pond is just NOT all that. And then Octave apparently went for $4 million. Both are open prospects.. so if they are depreciated over an eight year period, RP would have to have a foal bring $625K plus stud fee, plus mare care, etc. to be profitable, and Octave's nut would be $500K plus stud fee, etc. It's not exactly a home run.

Maybe not if you're selling but get a GSW colt out of one of them and it will be hyped to oblivion.

Well that's true.

Do you have some in the sale this week, Maven?

The Mutakddim and then two I use to own and sold this spring are in the sale as well in Keeneland.

I don't have my hopes too high on the Mutakddim. Weird book placement and German female family even with her being a juvenile stakes winner. She's decent looking though.

I thought Round Pond was in foal to Storm Cat, but I can't find anything confirming that...does anyone know?

The Bloodhorse reports a bidding war between John Ferguson/Sheik Mohammed and a group that included Nick Zito. Here's the link:

Seems like a much better bargain than $16 mil for The Green Monkey...

I can guarantee you this , if it was not for The Green Monkey, prices would not be even close to what they are today!!!!!!!!! Why do you think people are paying millions for broodstock!!! One of them might be carrying a TGM. At this level people are not working on getting something of value but working on feeding their egos!! THIS IS NOT A GARAGE SALE
