Pretty outstanding pedigree, being a half to Tomisue's Delight, Rock Slide, & Mineshaft. Obviously he did not work out of recent in Kentucky since they only bred 28 mares to him in 2007. Checking w/The Jockey Club, I see he got 75 mares the previous year and 194 in 2005!

On the face of it his numbers don't look that good, with 1% stakes winners f/foals of r/a, median earnings a paltry $5,500, & 34% in the money statistics, I'll factor in the Austrailian & Irish earnings, coupled w/what's coming down the pipe and an AEI of 1.13 vs .89 mares and say there is going to be some real upside in my opinion. He already has to 2 graded stakes winners & 8 stakes winners overall.

He was a million dollar yearling, so I expect he's got pretty nice conformation. Maybe some of you Kentucky folks can comment on your observations of this stallion. He's a lot more attractive prospect than Mull of Kintyre, from a breed to run standpoint.

Yeah, I saw that Bill, and they previously acquired "Del Mar Show", since "Rhythm" died and now they picked up these two.

California has quite a few nice turf sires, where you wouldn't need to go to Kentucky. Harris farm has Redattore, and Magali has Good Journey for example. Tomorrow is opening day for Golden Gate Fields and the new Tapeta surface as well! It's already having an impact on how Californians will breed.

Breed for steel - horses at Presque Isle were pulling up and/or breaking down all over the place. For all the talk about Tapeta, why is it that Dickenson trained stock needs a year layoff between races?

I thought these surfaces were supposed to help the breakdown rate. Woodbine's polytrack is the same thing. You can see the kickback for miles. Your horse will cough for hours after racing there, or get an eye injury from the chunks of carpet.

I viewed the new surfaces with some skepticism because there had not been enough time to evaluate the long term impact, yet Ca. jumped in with both feet (mandated by the CHRB) because of the amount of breakdowns.

Roke I knew about those (Tapeta) break downs and mentioned that to a friend of mine who is a big proponent of the artifical surfaces. I guess we'll have a better understanding of the Tapeta surface when the rains begin. Both Del Mar and Oak Tree have been very inconsistent of late, so it's not the panacea so many thought it would be (at least not yet).

Jenny the kick back has always been my primary concern because the fibers being inhaled by the horses & jockeys. I'm not sure what the impact has been though and maybe someone could chime in about the kickback & possible longterm affect. The 2 southern tracks having Cushion and GGF has the Tapeta surface.

I know some of the jocks have started wearing masks, because they are concerned about the long term effects. We raced at Woodbine this year and the amount of stuff inhaled is ridiculous. They kept saying they were working on putting some sort of gel on it to stop the kickback. Theoretically you need a front runner so they don't get stuck behind all the other horses flinging the surface into their eyes and lungs!!
My dad would say
"so far the horse has coughed up 2 area rugs and a doormat!!"
