English Channel

Postby clh » Mon Nov 19, 2007 2:24 pm

I just had a mare approved to English Channel. Although he is small - 15.2 - what are your thoughts with him to Allou? Gotta love those Smart Strikes right now ;)

Allou was bred to Birdstone - he was small but he really came into his own by the time he was a yearling.

Thoughts?

More info needed on the mare: Allou (Seattle Slew out of Fun Crowd (Easy Goer/Poupli).

No one has thoughts on this mating - pros or cons?

Hi CLH--

sorry, meant to congratulate you on getting English Channel for Allou!

I like the match. Interesting linebreeding (Jet Action is something you don't see everyday) and as far as my project database of injuries/illnesses, no red flags at all as far as Smart Strike as the grandsire, and almost none with her family, or SS as broodie sire.
I agree also that the Birdstone foal was a real balanced beauty.
Also EC certainly had the drive to win, which is something you've mentioned Allou lacked--?

Toccet02 - Allou lacked drive???? Only at race time which is putting it mildly. She really thought she didn't need to run - afterall - she is the daughter of SS and the granddaughter of Easy Goer. Hello? I can just get all gussied up and look nice ;) She did however love to work out in the mornings by herself when it was just her and another horse on the track - she ran well then - course she was getting alot of attention. IF she only knew how much more attention she'd have gotten if she actually WON (HA)

Thanks for your thoughts on EC - I like him - he was small - Allou is big and has alot of bone to her and seems to pass it on. I liked that EC raced until he was 5 and that he won over $5 million....

Well, why didn't the other horses simply fall at her feet in awe of her superior bloodlines (not to mention beauty) and let her trot to the wire in a spontaneous walkover?
I mean please.
I quite agree with Allou on that point.

In any case, yeah English Channel was a real champ, and Smart Strike is very hot right now, AND rightfully so. How often do we get to say that?
Best of luck!!
