Thoughts on Exclusive Quality?

Postby TomFool » Sun Nov 25, 2007 8:55 am

Going to Journeyman in FL for 4k. He is a bit interesting to me. He was 3 for 4 with a second & is a track record holder at GP & outran some very nice horses before they were really good. Talent is not a ? He was an 850k yearling but out of a rather weak dam so I figure he was some kind of a looker. Being by Elusive Quality does not bother me at all. My first thoughts are not bad of this horse. Thoughts?

First question is, what's wrong with him that he only ran 4 times? If he'd run more, and been as brilliant, he'd be in KY.

would also like to know what stopped this horse, at one point he looked like he might be special.

It was his ankle...

Florida-bred Exclusive Quality’s race career was short, but deep in class as he beat the likes of Bernardini, Songster and Diabolical before an ankle injury ended his career on the track.

As he enters stud at Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Journeyman Stud, the son of Elusive Quality out of the Glitterman mare First Glimmer has already garnered attention.

“If people look at his short racing career she was racing against the best of that year’s crop and beat them. He won three of his four races and was second in his maiden race,” said Crystal Fernung.

“We believe believe that they can be a son of or half-brother to so and so, but if they didn’t run well, we’re not interested. If they didn’t show a true ability to be a racehorse, then they are not for us. That’s the most important thing; that they had talent as a racehorse and this one did,” Fernung said. “For the quality of horses he beat, this horse was meant to be standing for $50,000. The only thing that stopped him was the ankle.”

Exclusive Quality set a track record at Gulfstream Park for seven furlongs in an allowance race in March 2006. He covered the distance in 1:21.11 and beat eventual three-time graded stakes winner Songster.

His next start was in the Spectacular Bid Stakes at Gulfstream which he won by a half length over Diabolical, who continues to race and has earned more than $750,000 in his career.

“We call him EQ because his name is so close to Elusive Quality. He is absolutely gorgeous. He’s just an exceptional individual. I can’t imagine someone not falling in love with him. We are very excited,” Fernung said.
