advice on this breeding

Postby Jenny » Wed Dec 05, 2007 7:29 am

There is an interesting mare in KY for sale. Madelyn pointed her out quite a while ago and I see she is still available. although her price has gone up $500 Her name is Miss Beag and she is in the data base. By Foxhound and the dams side is very interesting not commonly found lines here in NA. (Ahonoora) I was wondering what you thought of her with GONE FISHIN. I did have a pedigree analyst do some research for me, but I would like some of your thoughts. There seem to be so many different opinions and so much thought and research that goes into it. I find your input fascinating. I am seriously considering buying this mare and shipping her here to Ontario. I was told Foxhound would be great for him but not too sure on the dams side? It is hard to find a mare by Foxhound. This way we get Lassie Dear both top and bottom. Advice would be greatly appreciated and the reasoning behind it. :)

Tough assignment. Foreign bloodlines. You perhaps need an european expert but it appears that her sire loves Hyperion blood. For $2,500.00, I'd take a shot at Stroll. Although you would be making the conventional mistake of breeding unproven to unproven, I like the 5x5 Lassie Dear, 5x6 Joyce Grove, 3 strains of Somethingroyal and all four of Plucky Liege's best sons. Hard to recommend spending large dollars on a $500.00 mare so anything you do is a crap shoot.

Jellac has two Tourbillon line stallions she likes in Texas if you want to go there. I believe Legal Jousting in Canada would also work.

I think Jenny was looking at Miss Beag for GONE FISHIN.. It is, as you say, unusual to find a Foxhound mare. But perhaps Miss Beag might have a bit of a better shot with a stallion with Stop the Music? (See Ballyneety Saint).

I have an Othello mare that would go well with Gone Fishin, Miss Sundance, whose dam side is more familiar. You get 3x4 Weekend Surprise and 5x5 Northern Dancer through sons..
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Madelyn
As you read correctly it is strictly for GONE FISHIN. I remember that mare I will look more closely at her. I will pm you. I just want to find something that matches very well with him. To breed for myself to have a decent chance at a good runner for me personally. It is just that the pedigree guy we used says that Foxhound is great with him?

I already have and Indian Ridge line colt of my own. I am not looking for another. Actually I have 2.

Never mind. I just tried to look her up and I forgot her name. Who is she again?

I don't know why Foxhound would be better than Summer Squall for Gone Fishin. In fact, I ran Danzig x Danzig through the G1 Goldmine, and got 12 graded stakes winners, while Danzig x Storm Bird produced 23. Intriguing. So I ran other ND sons.. Danzig on the sire line:

Nureyev - 29 GSW
Nijinsky - 126 GSW
The Minstrel - 18 GSW
Vice Regent - 12 GSW
Dixieland Band - 5 GSW

The Othello mare is Miss Sundance.

Miss Beag is interesting, however if I had her I would chase down a Stop the Music stallion for her, to try to hit another one like Ballyneety Saint.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

I guess when they go though these pedigrees they include all the female families as well. I looked up Nijinsky. WOW I should look for a Sky Classic or Royal Academy mare then? I have always loved Royal Academy. So many choices so little money! I guess i won't get that Miss Beag then. Good for someone, maybe better choices for GF
