Thanks Olga, I completely agree and am pleased myself to have noticed some success for Sunday Break. As I said, anything we can do to bring back a strong Halo strain or more of a variety of Halo strains to the U.S. is a good thing.

I definitely understand what you are saying about relative sizes of mares and stallions.

Sunday Break is pretty much All American, though, as bloodlines go.. I think Forty Niner was here for seven years siring offspring before he took up permanent residence in Japan. Catequil is by Storm Cat who has never left the US.

There are several horses available in KY that have Mr. Prospector on top and Storm Cat (or some variation) on the bottom.

Hat Trick, although he raced in Japan is pretty American in terms of his background too. My understanding is that we're lucky to have any Halo style stallions left because the Japanese bought them all, and I've also read arguments that stallions by Sunday Silence wouldn't produce progeny that are competitive in the American Market.

Broodmare Sires of Sires

Postby RandomThoughts » Mon Dec 17, 2007 7:57 pm

I believe that the success of a sire is at least equally dependent on its damside. Does anyone have a sense of the relative success of Danehill vs. Lost Code as the damsire of sires?
The talented ones will give you an early hint.

From the PQ database for Catequil, "Raced in England. Sent to Japan, 1994."

Aah Olga, I know it's purely grammatical, but the antecedent clause "who has never left the US" refers to the subject, Storm Cat. Otherwise, it would have been "Catequil, who has never left the US, is by Storm Cat" in which case it would have been wrong.

Danehill no question if your just compairing broodmare sires but you cant use that in just selecting between Hat Trick & Silent Name. I like them both but I honestly think Hat Trick was probley the better horse of the two & his family fits mares here lots better. When I first looked at his pedigree the first thing I thought was Storm Cat line mare & I'm sure he will get a few of those & with guys like Bob McNair behind him has a great shot. Silent Name was a very good racehorse and he tore it up at Keenland on the poly & that was off of G Mandella training, who IMO is not absolutely horriable but there are many a better trainers out there than him. I hate the way Adena has done North Light (even though I dont really know how you could do a two mile galloper on the higher end successfully) & I think the Danehills probley can run over anything but their conformation hinders them so much on dirt as they are notorious for being back in their knees but they are fast & with us being as impatient as we are with our horses esp ones that have speed it just sounds like a disaster to have alot of them over here but maybe in time if or when we have to breed more for synthetic surfaces Danehills may prove here to be as good or close to what he is in AUS & Europe as he is probley the most important stallion of the last 20 years or so.
