Dance With Ravens?

Postby Jane » Sun Jan 06, 2008 7:05 pm

Anyone breed to Dance With Ravens? I have a mare that I think would go well with him but am concerned about the poor sale results. The few that have sold did not even make up for the stud fee... possibly just badly made foals have made it to the sales ring so far. I would love to hear if anyone here has seen any of his kids. Thanks.

All the foals that sold were weanlings and one did bring $20k.. However, when you take that $20k out the avearge is even poorer.

I like the pedigree very much, especially the dam; however, Northview needs to do something about his yearling sales if they expect to promote him as a commercial stallion..

His first foals are weanlings this year. He has been very popular with the breeders, covering full books (126) of mares each year. The only ones I have seen offered for sale were at the Fasig Tipton Midlantic December sale. This sale was particularly bad. The buyers just weren't there. A few weanlings sold well, but they were mostly the type that would sell well anywhere - - nice pages, good individuals, young Kentucky sires. There was little interest in most of the horses offered for sale. Of the two that I saw close up, one was very cute, muscular and correct but he was small (not suprisng for the produce of a Carnivaly mare), and the other was a thin, very rough, and really immature (May 29?) filly.

I don't know if Dance With Ravens first yearlings will be commercial or not. Usually, Maryland stallions are not very commercial until the foals run. Domestic Dispute and Lion Hearted were, but that is not the usual for a regional freshman stallion.

Hope it helps you.

He may be commercial in Canada since most of the family ran there. Another thing to consider is that most folks that breed commercially will hold their foals to sell as yearlings, especially if they like them. We will have a better idea what he is throwing then. Right now it is hard to tell.

What mare do you have in mind as a possible for him?
