Kentucky Holiday tips?

I have checked out the information about RV's and we agree renting a RV will be a very good idea. Thank you so much for your help.

June 2nd to 22nd, Churchill has racing. I have a friend with a lovely apartment a short walking distance from Churchill that you could rent for a few days or more if you are interested.

We have a flight, we go from Holland to Detroit and from Detroit to Lexington on the 1st of June and back on the 20th of June. The flight takes in totaal about 10 to 11 hours so we will get rather fatigued. And then ofcourse there is the jetlag because of the time difference. But hey, we will survive

. Still the rest of it we have to book, it's a bit more complicated to get that arranged well.

Great! You should have good weather no matter where you decide to visit. There are a lot of national RV rental companies so if that is the route you are taking you should be able to find one servicing Lexington.. if you need anything just ask!

When you get in to Lexingon, there are some decent and relatively inexpensive hotels across from the airport. There is a Courtyard by Marriott, etc. You could head into one of those for a rest and reconnaissance. You could pick up a few maps and a guidebook and do some planning, along with sleeping. Keeneland Race Course is directly across the street from the airport, so I imagine that will be your first stop. There is no racing at Keeneland in June, but it is still a must see.

I'm a bit surprised you got a flight into Lexington, it is a little bitty airport with not much action.

I had no idea that Lexington airport is so small, I imagened a really big city and a big airport :wink:

Jet lag heading this way isn't as bad as it will be heading back home....try not to nap when you get here and just go to bed at a reasonable hour...you'll wake up wanting dinner at breakfast though...when we stay in Lexington we stay at the Holiday Inn North...make sure you get a room with the Tempurpedic bed...think it's called a premium room but you'll sleep like a foal(baby)...eat in the bar for the first night and then walk back to your room....following is the link to the hotel...

Now madelyn, do remember that the Maktoums fly their 747 into Lexington.

Elles, don't forget Calumet and Lane's End. Calumet has its own cemetery if you are into the history of racing.

Have a great trip and if you take photos, give us a link to them! I haven't seen the Blue Grass since - oh, almost ten years.

Yes, I know. There is nowhere to park them at that bitty airport so they are always parked on the grass down at the boundary fence. It's how you can tell they are in town

Not so long now anymore. We will leave the 1st of June, so it's only three weeks now. Yesterday we received the travel documents. We booked a hotel for the first night, after that we are just going to travel where the wind will take us. The voucher for our hotel is not right though, there was a hotel on it in Lexington, Massachusett.

A friend of mine (who lives in England) has a number of horses in Kentucky and he asked if I wanted to have a look at them. The horses are at Frankfort Park farm near Keeneland racetrack. I hope I will be able to find it!

Frankfort Pike is easy to find, it's right off of New Circle Rd. (which as you might guess, circles Lexington.) At this time of year, Frankfort Pike is one of the most beautiful drives you can imagine, everything is green and lush with pastures filled with mares and foals on both sides. Definitely worth checking out.

Oops, I just reread your post: Frankfort Park, not Pike. Nevertheless, same applies.
