Colt Name Suggestions?

Postby Roguelet » Mon Dec 31, 2007 9:59 pm

Those of you who know me know that I will be doing this online at 11:59 PM on February 1st, but just for the heck of it, I thought I'd make an attempt to begin the process early this year. I only have 2 left who need names before the deadline; both colts:

#1:
Sire: Colonel Bradley
Dam: Fancy Reality
This is a TANK of a horse. Not overly tall, but just solid and stout. Dark bay. Easy going, calm, sort of a "bubba" type.
Barn name: Puncher
Image

#2:
Sire: Indy Mood
Dam: McGuerty Creek
This is a more refined and elegant looking colt. Ligher bay, mare's first foal. He's a bit more "alert" although not stupid at all.
Barn name: Doesn't really have one... just "Gertie's colt"
Image

We like plays on names, we like mythology references, or anything that just really "fits." Pictures are old, from the summer, but it's what I have on hand. Anyone have any ideas?

1) Brad to Reality, you might be able to get away with Antaeus, who in greek mythology was one of the many sons of Gaia, he was huge (like your boy) and would challenge gods to wresting matches and was unbeatable because everytime you threw him back to earth he got stronger.

you'd have to tell me more about the 2nd one.

For either of the boys here are some names i liked, keep in mind I am looking at mythological names as you said that was your preference,
CERBERUS
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Greek Mythology (Latinized)
Pronounced: SUR-bu-rus (English)
Latinized form of the Greek Κερβερος (Kerberos), which possibly meant "demon of the pit". In Greek myth this was the name of the three-headed dog that guarded the entrance to Hades. ( IT would definetly strike fear into his runningmates!) or
DARDANOS
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Greek Mythology
Other Scripts: Δαρδανος (Ancient Greek)
Possibly from Greek δαρδαπτω (dardapto) "to devour". In Greek mythology Dardanos was a son of Zeus and Electra. He was the founder of the city of Dardania in Asia Minor.
I will not change my horse with any that treads on four pasterns. he bounds from the earth, as if his entrails were hairs..When I bestride him, I soar, he trots the air; the earth sings when he touches it; Williams Shakespeare, "Henry V"

Not my finest attempts ever but I'm trying to think of ways to play with the names, etc. I'll give it another go in a bit.

#1:
Sire: Colonel Bradley
Dam: Fancy Reality

-President's Own (Marine Corps Band name)
-Secret Soldier
-Spoils of War (Supposedly Civil War colonels got the 'spoils of warfare')
-Proper Colonel
-Colonial Colonel
-Fancy A Secret
-Ruby Truce
-Intergalactic Gala
-Military Dress

#2:
Sire: Indy Mood
Dam: McGuerty Creek

-Big Flirt
-Cosmic Cassanova
-Evenus (Wikipedia: In a story in which Evenus is presented as a mortal king, he drowned in the river that beared his name whilst pursuing the man (Idas) who had abducted his daughter, Marpessa.)
-Indy Divine (or hey combine it for Indyvine)

The first boy is linebred rough'n tumble and he looks like he's ready to rough'n tumble.

I would name him Tough'n Rumble
