A rare white yearling filly is to be sold in Australia on the 26th March at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
But this is not just any filly.
She is a three-quarter sister to the Champion Australian galloper - Might And Power (33 Career Starts, 15 wins, 7 seconds and a third, A$5,226,286) - the extraordinary front running son of Zabeel who won the Gr 1 Melbourne Cup, Gr 1 Caulfield Cup and Gr 1 WS Cox Plate by leading all of the way.
And going by this video footage, 'Minty', has certainly inherited some of Dad's characteristics.
The filly, by Zabeel, is out of Carmina Burana - a daughter of Benediction - the dam of Might And Power.
Zabeel is a pure-breeding bay and Carmina Burana is a chestnut.

I remember when this 'surprise' filly was born - not only b/c of her color but also b/c of her breeding. She has grown into quite a lovely and powerful looking yearling and clearly one who likes to be the 'lead'.
But I have a question: How can Zabeel be termed a "true breeding bay" when this is his daughter? (Aren't the "bay" genes being dominated/suppressed/modified in their expression by the "white" genes? I thought a "true breeding bay" ALWAYS produced a bay unless bred to a gray?)
Second question - Do the experts have any idea where the 'white' genes are coming from in this filly? Sire or Dam....or Both????

My understanding is because he has never sired a chestnut he is deemed a pure breeding bay. The white is an extreme case. Other pure breeding bays were Danehill and his son Redoute's Choice.

Sir Patrick Hogan who stands Zabeel at his famed Cambridge Stud, where Zabeel's father Sir Tristram also stood and where the white filly was born may have some thoughts and will endeavour to find out.
Thank you so much for sharing this important information. This filly,
along with the foals from Shirayukihime (1996) are top notch babie$.
Lets hope for the better. Nice looking filly. Made me remember Dalene's white filly (Silver Mystique) who went for 85k and sailed to Europe. Hope for the best. Amen!
