Didn't he have a "career-ending injury"? That sure cleared up quick.

soft tissue injury, he was a hell of a sprinter, but never put together too many races together at a time
too weird to live...too rare to die

Maybe because he's by Songandaprayer...a stallion whose sons just might have an increased chance (for whatever reason) of having a fertility issue.

Consider this...from just a few sons of Songandaprayer that have been retired to stud, two have already had significant fertility issues...and been sent back to the track.

First it was Praying for Cash (by Songandaprayer)...and now it's Songster (also by Songandaprayer).

Let the questions, concerns and/or doubts etc begin...re the breeding qualities of Songandaprayer and/or his sons.

Thanks for that info. Wonder if more Songandaprayer sons will be gelded...just wondering now that he's 0 for 2 for sons at stud.

Gee guys...isn't this ironic. I have one mare bred to one of their stallions and had another mare that i had an interest in breeding to Songster. I asked (about 3 weeks ago) point blank about him (Songster) and was told (quote, unquote) his book is completely full....completely full??? I thought to myself, self, how could this be...it's barely March...yes, I was told, he (Songster) is full, Consolidator is full, heck, everyone is full w/waiting lists....so, if I would give up a mare for this year and a mare for next, I may be able to get to Consolidator....but, I'd have to wait until someone talked to someone else....felt like a car deal to me...

hello....I already have a mare in foal to one of your stallions....why lie to me and tell me that Songster's book is full???? Think i'd never find out??? This game is really starting to suck. (oops-can I say that word here? Sorry, but it does.)

Why couldn't his book have been full? Many first years, especially ones at that price level and track accomplishments fill up quickly, often before the start of the new year.

Darley has such a great reputation for supporting the people who breed to their stallions at the sale that I'm sure many people were jumping into his book.

There's no reason to doubt their statement. His lack of fertility would have taken some time to discover and then they probably tried multiple remedies before determining it was a lost cause.

I certainly wouldn't take it personally or use it as a barometer of how they do business. They've always been extremely kind, courteous, and flexible with me and everyone else I know who has used them.

Songster has been full for quite some time. This is evidenced by the fact that he had already covered 60 mares by the time he was taken off-line - 60 mares in 3.5 weeks. That is a VERY full book.
