The March 2008 edition of HORSE JOURNAL (something like Consumer Report for equines) had an article on this subject. They tested eight natural dewormers with dismal results. They suggest horse owners pass on natural dewormers. They found that none of the manufacturers had even done comprehensive studies on their products. They found that one product manufactured by Riva's Remedies contained Black Walnut. Feeding a horse any portion of the Black Walnut tree is flirting with laminitis. Don't waste your money. HJ stated that before using natural dewormers you may be better off not deworming at all.
HJ concluded:
HORSE JOURNAL is well worth the $39 one year subscription. http://www.horse-journal.com/cs
HJ concluded:
Properly maintained healthy horses may not need deworming at all, except in high-exposure situations. . . Safety concerns are a major issue that drives people to investigate natural products, but of all the approaches you could take, herbal deworming is the most potentially toxic. . . the effectiveness of herbal dewormer ingredients is also directly proportional to their toxicity.
