Our new Filly

Postby ponytales1976 » Wed Mar 26, 2008 5:14 pm

Out of curiosity just wondering what you guys think of this girls pedigree. I am a rescue and not well versed on TB pedigrees, just curious to see what this girl is bred for. She is entered in Pedigree Query as : MyPersonalCocktale
Thank you

Very nice baby.. Did you ever inquire to Godstone about the previous owners of this mare. They would have information about her on file. She is a young mare, who it looks like this was her first foal. Why was she headed to New Holland????

Yes I did speak to them. This is her 2nd foal the first foal was a 2007 Colt by Cetawayo which Godstone Farms currently owns. Simply put the owner of That's Personal ran into some personal difficulties and sold a bunch of horses, they all ended up at New Holland, That's Personal was one of them along with another almost full term pregnant mare. That's Personal is the only one of the bunch that I know is safe. Very sad story.

Just wanted to clarify, she wasn't heading to New Holland when we pulled her off the trailer, she had been at New Holland and purchased by the meatman already, we pulled her off HIS trailer leaving New Holland on her way to Canada.

Can anyone anylize her pedigree for me though???? PLEASE???

Well...One thing I noticed is that her sire, Cocky, went to stud in '05 and so his first runners are 2 yr olds of this year. Meaning that it is a wait and see to determine what he produces. Godstone should be able to give you an idea of any that have raced thus far or are in race training.

Godstone seems to breed some of their horses for the sporthorse market or so that value is there should they not make it as a racehorse. There are definitely some "names" in this pedigree that would appeal to the sporthorse market.

Nice outcross pedigree for the most part and some turf influences as well.

All in all, I'd say a decent match up for a regional market mare with an intent to race locally. (several mares in her pedigree have large #s of starts and or had children with that). A great deal of her monetary value in the racing world will depend on how her sire's 2 yr olds do this year.

Only other thing I have heard is that Hoist the Flag can pass on a bad temperment, so I'd imagine early handling and teaching of manners will be very crucial.

Lovely filly and mare...Glad to hear they are in a safe place.

Thank you. I just got a list of the 2 year olds and added them to my virtual stable so I can see how they do. They all just turned 2 so none of them have started yet. Cocky is actually owned by Mill Ridge farm in KY, but Godstone stood him for 1 season. I was told when I got That's Personal that Hoist the Flag had a tendency to pass on some agressive tendencies. All in all That's Personal is a well behaved mare...she has bit my twice, hard enough to break skin through a sweatshirt and a winter jacket though. Once I walked passed her stall to feed my QH before her and turned my back to her and she reached out and grabbed me, and the other time I walked her and the baby passed his stall and she grabbed me. She hates him, but I am pretty sure both times she was aiming for me.

What a beautiful baby. I applaud you for what you did for that mare. You rule.
