We LOST him

Postby pokeyman » Sat May 10, 2008 11:17 am

Just to update about our orphaned foal...

To summarize, our best mare died of an uterine rupture a day after foaling. We sent the foal to a farm in VA that raises orphans.

We lost Jack today. Apparently, he got sepsis and could not be saved. We all thought he was going to make it and earlier this week he was galloping around and playing.

We are just heartbroken. We only own 3 mares and do the best we can with breeding and care. We race everything we breed and never let a horse get claimed. This is just a killer for us.....   Damn. Why us?

When you go to the barn and feed, groom, muck stalls and attend births this totally sucks. It's not like we just write checks and are removed from the scene.

We try so hard to do the right thing. It just doesn't seem fair.

Sorry..writing this holding back tears. Trying to make sense of everything. Losing a horse is never easy, for sure. But this double wammy is a hard pill to swallow.

You will go insane trying to reconcile this. Please don't bother, it's okay to mourn without justifying it.

So sorry to hear of the loss.

My condolences for your double loss. Like Warhorse said you can't always explain why things happen in your life. Grieve for Jack and his mom. You know you did the best you could for them, in the end it's all you can do. (((hugs)))

Oh pokey I feel so awful for you. I really was hoping he'd pull through too. I may have never seen him but I imagined him and had only the best wishes for him. let yourself cry and mourn this little fellow and his mom. perhaps she truly needed him with her. Bless you.
trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while. :)

Oh Pokeyman, :( I am so sorry to hear about Jack.

I was rooting for him and he sounded like a pistol.
Please accept my deepest sympathies. :( :(

Words always seem so inadequate when someone like you suffers such a painful loss. It is also so unfair when there is no fault on your part. Please know and believe that the mare and foal will come running to meet you at that far and away gate.

Thank you all.

I am in a bit of a better state of mind this morning. Sorry to be so emotional yesterday.

We appreciate your kind words and they really help in the healing process.

Well, hoping that the next 2 births go well.

May Nate and Jack gallop across the rainbow bridge together.......

Thanks again, everyone.

That is sad news indeed. I too am a small breeder, and I understand that you are mourning the loss of family.
