Agree.
Big Brown should not have to "take the rap" for the direction racing or thoroughbred breeding is going.
I used to think the cliche expression "it is what it is" was shallow, but the older I get, the more I realize how true and profound it is.
Being 50 myself, I strive to try to keep moving *with* history, i.e, the history of my own time, otherwise, you get left behind. If I can affect some positive change in stuff I care about, it I will put my energy toward that. I don't have the spare energy I did in my youth to waste on bemoaning, like some old codger, "the way it used to be."
"So we beat on, boats against the current, born back ceaselessly into the past...." F. Scott Fitsgerald, Great Gatsby.
Fitzgerald has Gatsby say: "Can't repeat the past? Why of course you can!" That is the moment in the novel, on page 111, where we are clued in that he is a tragic character.
I plan to enjoy this TC for what it is, this year, in 2008, and root for BB and a few underdogs as well. (Although one can almost argue that BB IS the underdog, in some ways.........)
