Big Brown to Haskell??

Postby Tesio » Thu Jun 19, 2008 3:34 pm

Announced today BB heading to Monmouth Park in August. Can't help but think his performance in the Belmont Stakes helped make this decision.

With all the congressional testimony today and Dutrow's VERY noticeable absence, could this decision be based on the detention barn in NY? Just a thought, but with all the security around this barn on Belmont day maybe that in some way led to BB's lack of performance.

Smarty Jones started 'preparing' for his next race after the Belmont too, but than that 'injury' showed up forcing his retirement. I won't get excited about seeing BB run again until they load him in the starting gate.

I really liked BIG BROWN. Had it not been for his bad wheels, I think the potential for a Triple Crown would have been greater for him, but I must say "so much for the horse that Rick Dutrow claimed could beat any horse alive." IMHO Dutrow was a "no show" at Congress, because putting his foot in his mouth twice in two months might be detrimental to health, but then I again I heard he was sick anyway.

Like you, I'll believe that he runs again when I see it, and not before.

I also agree. Believe it when I see it.

hi Dave C

At the press conference where Smarty Jones' retirement was announced by the Chapmans, they (the Chapmans) seemed (to me anyway) embarrassed (if not defensive, and maybe even aggravated) when (after their announcement) the colt's attending veterinarian (during the same press conference) said (and I'm parphrasing) that 'if Smarty Jones was rested 60 to 90 days, he'd likely be just fine to continue racing.' Basically the vet suggested 'it's no big deal.'

Yikes...Ouch!!! Ya think that Three Chimneys' gag-reflex kicked in  as a result of the conflicts at that press conference?

Once again...Three Chimneys is involved with a dual-classic-winning (but non-triple crown winning) colt. First it was Silver Charm, then Smarty Jones, now it's Big Brown...and arguably each had been hyped to the hilt  ...none more than BB.

This time around though (and considering the Smarty Jones press conference conflicts) something tells me that Three Chimneys will likely do anything/everything within its power to make sure that when BB's retirement announcement is made (whenever that might be)...that everyone involved will be (at the very least) on the same page.

Knowing the players...that's probably makes a lotta sense.

Looks like the Pyro connections are looking at the Haskell as well. Yay!

Hopefully Cunningham and Gallion have current licenses in NJ. Curlin's been banned from racing in NY...
