Schuylerville Winner--Jardin

Postby going4stamina » Wed Jul 23, 2008 8:30 pm

I thought this was a very interesting pedigree for today's winner. Not seen very often these days!
http://www.pedigreequery.com/jardin5

No Native Dancer, Northern Dancer, No Storm Cat, No Mr.P, No Seattle Slew, No Secretariat, No Turn To or Ribot--but inbred to a nondescript mare.!? Interesting. If Jardin continues to do well, it will be interesting to see who she is eventually bred too.

What do you think?

She also had two full “brothers”. So Ocala seems to have a lot of faith in this cross.

I think I love it, and that's exactly why I picked her out at the Keesep07 sale--she's in my fantasy stable of those I would have bought, had I money and the opportunity to own...so I'm psyched! Why do you think she fetched such a price (over 450K I think) with such a rare pedigree with none of the big stallions?

I love seeing Bebop, Sicambre and In Reality all close in one American horse pedigree.

She sure does have a bunch of obscure mares in her pedigree though. I guess the buyers were thinking of her in terms of outcrossing to the fashion breds, as Louis calls them, since Old Bess is in both Songandaprayer and Montbrook. Also there are a couple of Old Bess daughters who have done very well with In Reality line stallions.

Just guessing and wish one of the experts would chip in here to discuss why this cross was so appealing to the breeders.

Definitely not an expert and just hypothetical-

Given the recent attention given to breeding in the TB racehorse,
this mare would seem to exemplify what the breeders should be looking for if they are going to change course somewhat.

Maybe what would be telling is "which" breeders were interested in her and if they bid on other mares not so bred to the current fave lines.

Could be the beginning of a change of course?

IMHO, if they really want to gain and she's a decent broodmare, is to breed her to stallions without Native Dancer, Northern Dancer, Storm Cat, Mr.P, Seattle Slew, Secretariat, Turn To or Ribot. (If they can be found) Not only are broodmares needed without those lines, they need some stallions, too.

She's at least running and doing some winning, although in what class may or may not affect how she's perceived. Hopefully, she will stay sound.

Not only do they desperately need outcross mares, they need outcross stallions.

If one were looking ahead, trying to see what the market is going to demand in the future, taking the long approach instead of the immediate bottom line, gambling a bit- then investing in horses to produce the needed outcross might, in the end, prove profitable. IF such people exist right now.

Besides, I'd kinda like to see this type of breeding and tail mare record work, such that less attention is paid to "black type" only. It would be nice if "blood will tell" if given a chance and the right crosses.

Because that may be the only way to bring some of the unfashionable lines back and maybe some soundness.

Visiting fairy tale land, I'd like to see this mare crossed back to tail mail Matchem line, but not through War Relic. I did say that was fairy tale thinking.....

Is Padua Stables still the owner?

Hear Hear HEAR! This is exactly what I want to do do if I get into the breeding game...or at least I can buy mares with this type of pedigree (that is to say, not to type!)

Yes Padua still owns.

Personally I'd like to see her bred to a Tourbillon sire, if there are any.

Finding a Matchem in this country that isn't War Relic is going to be incredibly difficult. Sassafras (if he has any descendants standing) may be about it.

Who else is out there?

How about Singletary for a stallion?
There is no such thing as too much Teddy.

Hmm....would that be too much Buckpasser? Wonder what the legs are like.

Singletary is tail female back to that Fair Play/Rock Sand mare cross. To far back to connect with the In Reality?

Jardin has been exported to Japan, presumably as a broodmare.
Too bad.
