Wow, Pretty Polly was really a terrific mare and I don’t care that 50 colts have higher ratings because Brigadier Gerard traced in tail female line to her and he had a very high rating of 144.

Her winning range was from five furlongs to two and a quarter miles and she achieved the extremely rare feat of being the champion, of either sex, at two, three and four. But on her best rating of 137, which puts her ahead of the likes of Sun Chariot, Allez France, Sceptre, Dahlia and Pebbles, there would still be 50 colts better on the all-time list.

Pretty Polly
Hallo,
maybe it's a bit overlooked, but Pretty Polly is represented in the damline of the Top German Sire Birkhahn and his close relative Burgermeister. Their damsire Cappiello (won Grand Prix de Paris) traces via Dutch Mary to abovementioned mare.
What's not to widely known Pretty Polly had 2 brothers respectivly named Admirable Crichton (by Isinglass) and Admiral Hawke (by Gallinule, a FB), who was sent to Germany. He is to find in the damline of Tajo, Tannenbruch, Tabriz (Fam. 21-a) etc.
Admirable Crichton was sent to France. He is the sire of Hellebarde (Fam. 1-t), a succesful French branch of this family.
Pretty Polly had atleast 2 more FS named Adula and Miranda, they founded their own seperate branches of Family 14. Borgia (by Acatenango),Boreal (by Java Gold) and Eden Rock (by Dashing Blade)
are descents of Miranda.
I just read in another post, asking for the time Pretty Polly ran in the "Oaks". She clocked in at 2:46.2. By the way only 4 runners in the pretigious race! The National Horseracing Museum at Newmarket had published a book several years ago about the influential mare about her racing and breeding career. Author Michael Tanner, Pretty Polly.

Thank you very much Bettina for this very interesting information.
I have a book at home about Pretty Polly but I am now at work. I will have a look in it to see if there are more winning times in it.
Her female family is still going strong:

In this listing Pretty Polly is placed second:

The two most famous fillies in the history of racing are probably Sceptre and Pretty Polly. The latter beat all before her as a two-yearold and her first race as a three-year-old was the 1,000 Guineas which she won with ease. She followed this up with victories in the Oaks, The Coronation Stakes at Ascot, The Nassau Stakes at Goodwood, and the St Leger and Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster. She was beaten in France after a very rough crossing and she was also pipped as a four-year-old in the Ascot Gold Cup with Kerryman, Bernard Dillon, in the saddle. All in all she won 22 races worth over £37,000 - something in region of €10 million in today’s money I’d imagine.
