Wraps and claiming question
Is it possible that a trainer who ALWAYS uses wraps on a certain horse when he sends him out might not wrap him if he heard word of a claim ticket being dropped on him? Is that a tell? Or is it just my imagination working here? Thanks

How many people really care if they loose one. And the individual in question is not someone who plays games. If he wants to loose one. I'd pass.

I will never understand this. If you put a horse in a claiming race, you stand the chance of the horse getting claimed. If the horse is put in, you must think they fit there, or you would put them in a different race where they belong. If they belong there, you have a shot at purse money and claim money. Are there people who get mad when a horse they entered into a claiming race gets claimed? It's a claiming race!
Most of the time, when I think I'm "dropping a horse", he goes in the race and is simply competitive. I'm usually just deceiving myself! I did it recently, and people thought it was a wrong move. The horse cost 75k, he didn't win, so eventually he went in as a 25k claimer and won. I guess the only time you can really make a mistake is if the horse you dropped in wins by 20 lengths an gets claimed, but usually, it's not like that. He belongs at this level. If he gets claimed, that's the game, no?
If I was afraid to put him in a 25k claiming race because I believed he was worth 50k, that is my choice. I should spend my time hunting for a 50k race. I heard a story about a trainer who was winning at a crazy clip, like 40-50%. Another trainer asked him what his secret was. His answer was, if a horse was competitive at 40, he would put them in for 25. And is a horse beat him, or ran a nice second, he would claim THAT horse and run him for less. Horse weren't claimed too often, he made some decent purse money to boot.
I guess I don't fully understand the problem of having a horse claimed.

In this case it's a horse who could have been bumped up to ALW level + also should have been tried on turf IMO. He wound up being claimed as I said he would and guess what, he was claimed by a trainer for himself who is gonna put him on turf. Dollars to donuts it'll be sept 25 in ALW company...
Thanks for the opinions guys. BTW My 75 yr old Dad thinks I should find out who Jack Carava is dropping a tag on and do the same,LOLOLOL, he thinks JC has a great eye for finding horses he can win with. I hated to have to tell him it doesn't quite work that way.

He's not all wrong. Jack hits at 16-17% clip with first off the claim horses. Another very respectable horseman

Oh come on - there are horses some horses you'd like to lose, there are some you don't care one way or the other about and there are some you're going to be upset if you lose. Yes, I know when I start a horse in a claiming race that I might lose the horse, but to be honest, it depends on the horse and the individual situation how I feel about that. I'm never going to throw a fit when I turn a horse over to someone else, but I can think of situations where there definitely would be hard feelings. And, I certainly am willing to imply there is an issue with a horse that I want to keep.
As to the bandages... maybe they were just running late, knew he didn't really need them and assuming the horse was getting claimed anyway, just went without. Running late happens happens. Not that I would know from experience, of course.
