Thanks. I had an... issue... with an owner/trainer out at Los Al early last year and was curious to see if it was the same person (it's not )

Hey, ArchDandy,
do you consider the possibility to get some good steeplers, or hurdlers from your new mare ?
IMO Redattore may be an interesting choice.
Other ideas: Behrens or High Brite.

Her 7th dam is Marguerite De Valois, full sister to Sir Gallahad III and Bull Dog. Bred to Man O'War, she produced Hostility who was put to Spy Song to get a 4x2 cross of Man O'War. Outcrossing to Ambiorix II produced Miss Glamour Gal, she bred to Intentionally to get Indiscrete Miss. Intentionally is tail male Man O'War giving a 4x4 cross.

Malakova is by Inkerman who is 4x5x5 Hyperion by Gainsborough. Gainsorough travels well with Teddy, the two close genetic equivalents.

Further Hyperion/Selene is introduced vis Erin's Isle, particularly through damsire Shantung whose dam Barley Corn is by Hyperion out of Schiaparelli by Schiavoni, the latter a close relation. Selene is by Chaucer out of Serenissima and Schiavoni is by Chaucer's 5/8 brother Swynford out of Serenissima.

Crepello is also introduced whose granddam Red Sunset is a product of a Gainsborough/Teddy cross.

Dominated Debut carrries further supporting lines. For instance, Raise A Native has Selene/Fair Play/Man O'War/Teddy. Quadruple has Bull Dog 4x4.

I think that Media Luna may appreciate further lines of Man O'War and Teddy so perhaps the La Troienne family with their allied War Admiral combination would suit. Buckpasser comes to mind

Cheers
Rich

How about Reba's gold or Highland Gold? I noticed that a lot of Erins Isle's did well with some bold ruler, so Ive done some digging. I still really like redattore, just trying to bring together a good list so I can start driving to farms and looking in person.

Busted is the grandsire of last year's Grand National winner, Silver Birch. I'm surprised that some of our European friends such as Ben and Erin's Isle haven't 'jumped' in on this discussion as they are very familiar with the Busted/Crepello sirelines.

Running this mare at LA was surely the stupidest idea that anyone could possibly have, and not trying her longer and on the turf was also a waste. That being said, if you do breed her, Arch Dandy, I would imagine you'd be wanting to race the offspring yourself? Her pedigree and race record wouldn't make her fashionable (I like the pedigree but I wouldn't call it fashionable, and it would be as hard to find races for her offspring as it obviously was for her).

I agree that it wasnt a bright idea to run her short, and Ive found she has a full sister doing the exact same thing...frustrating but maybe that means I can get the pair to myself for cheap. I intend to breed the filly and keep her and her baby at home to avoid as much expense as I can and do the whole train at home/ship in to race, since her pedigree dictates late bloomers I wont run the baby til its 3 or better. Im just trying to find a nice stallion that can bolster the good qualities she has (soundness and stamina) and dash in some speed, in the end I'd like to end up with a horse that can negotiate a 1-1 1/8 miles since thats the majority of the "route races" in california are at that distance. Ive heard the saying "dont breed that mare unless you want another one just like her" and I would love a carbon copy of my filly, just with the ability to run a little shorter.

Sounds like a good plan, Arch Dandy. I'm all for soundness and stamina, we need more of that. Even more plaudits for being prepared for late maturing progeny.

you might consider sending her to Lit de Justice if you want to add some speed. I agree with everyone else though.... this isn't a stylish commercial pedigree.

Hello, Arch
I just ran a Werk Nick with Redatorre and your mare.
Its seems that there is a Elusive Native and Northern Dancer Inbreeding make an A.
Did you know about the same sires?

Yeah I saw that a few months ago when I took one look at a picture and fell in love, I had originally considered him because he ran til a late age and ran many races. I wanted soundness. He also had nice sloping shoulders and my mare is somewhat straight shouldered. It wasnt until later that I compared their pedigrees, and ran a werk nick for it. The "A" grade encouraged even more pedigree researching, and thats when I started trying to find what worked for other horses with Erins Isle/Northern dancer etc. The only problem is now I have a list of about 5 stallions that I want to go look at in person so I can narrow, maybe after that I can run werk nicks for the ones I like that are left. Im gonna need all the tools in the shed to break the tie. I also noticed that Exclusive native sired Affirmed and Genuine Risk, It cant be bad to have a little bit of that kind of inbreeding can it? :)

So Arch, what is your list of 5 stallions that you're working with?

I remember browsing for horses with Exclusive native inbreeding and not being disappointed, Ill have to look again more extensively.

My list so far

Redattore
High Brite
Highland Gold
Behrens
I was considering Good Journey but being a first time breeder I'm thinking against the higher stud fee.

I think Behrens is probably too much stamina on top of what you already have here. Also I think his stud fee is too high for what he has produced.

High Brite might be a better choice than Behrens at least from the point of view of race winning productivity.
