Re:
What a fun horse this is..... and what a great job the connections have done with her. You can have a great time and lots of fun with a horse provided you enter them in the right spot etc. The folks with PP have done all that and more. Congrats to them one and all and good luck going for #17!
We're pretty excited here in New Mexico. Tomorrow will be a big day for the New Mexico bred program.
Unfortunately, the state is getting nailed with the remnants of hurricane Dolly, so no telling what the track conditions will be like. Seems to me that Peppers has won on a muddy track before, but I'm not positive.

RUIDOSO, N.M. -- Ruidoso police are evacuating residents due to major flooding all across the city. Flash flood warnings and flood warnings are in effect for Ruidoso and the Rio Ruidoso.
There were also at least seven successful swift water rescues. However search crews are still searching for one person.
As many as 100 homes were damaged by the flood waters and at least 150 people are currently in shelters, which are set up at the Bonita Nazerene Church and Gateway Church of Christ.
The Rio Ruidoso flood stage is 6 1/2 feet and it's now over 11 feet and rising. There are six major bridges washed out. Officials say this is the worst flooding ever for this area. (EDIT: this story is being updated, so the quote is old)

Well, Ruidoso is a disaster! Major damage, homes flooded, people evacuated, people stranded, bridges out, etc. The water has swept away at least one home and two people are missing who fell into the flood waters.
Ruidoso Downs didn't go unscathed. I saw video of the tote board half under water, the track flooded, etc. The news reports the horses are fine, but now Pepper's Pride's trainer has a real headache. I understand they rescheduled the race for next Saturday, and he currently has nowhere to train his horses because of the track conditions. What a stroke of bad luck.

I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that of the streak, all were on a fast track although prior to that I don't know if any wins were on a muddy track. I also heard she might skip the rescheduled race per Bloodhorse.

I was glad to read about her monumental victory today. She's a remarkable mare and it's a great sotry and important for New Mexico racing but..., now that they have the record, are the connections going to finally have the guts and run her in a graded stakes somewhere against some real competition? Tin Cup Chalice's connections had the guts to ship and go for broke and look what happened-they got it done. PP's connections should have nothing to lose at this point following the NM F/M Cup.

The interview I heard specified one or two more New Mexico races before retirement.
I don't really care that she hasn't raced outside New Mexico (although I certainly applaud the connections of Tin Cup Chalice). I consider the quality of racing in New Mexico to be pretty good and Peppers Pride has won 12 stakes as part of her 17 win streak. So they're state-bred stakes - it doesn't matter, it's still a real achievement for the horse and the trainer. She's not Cigar or Citation but she's something!

I completely agree that what Pepper's Pride has accomplished is amazing and have been rooting for her for a while now, but...if I owned a highly talented racehorse, I would have a burning desire to know what that individual's maximum potential is. I would have to know what her ceiling is and how she competes with the best.
Despite the 12 stakes victories, achieving the record in an allowance/op. claimer is somewhat of a lukewarm feeling as well. Personally, I would have to know how that horse would compete in the graded circuit and now we'll apparently never know. I suppose each individual embraces a different ideology.
