His stud career got off to a bit of a slow start last year, but Sky Mesa is certainly making up for lost time now. In the last 2 days he's had Sky Diva win the G1 Frizette, Terrain place 2nd in the G1 Lane's End Breeders Futurity, and Skylighter win the G2 Indiana Oaks. As of today, he's moved to the top of the Juvenile Sire List. :)

I love Sky Mesa. I agree his foray into the stallions ranks was less than auspicious. He's beautiful, beautifully bred, and had a ton of talent imo. And he was priced right at $15,000 but I'm sure he'll go back up to his old price (30K).

Sometimes you just have to be patient with these sires. :D Honestly, I was really concerned with his 1st crop standings, and very happy to see him develop into a strong 2nd crop sire.

Im interested in the whole AP INDY/BROAD BRUSH nick. There's some data coming along that it's a good one. SKYLIGHTER is another example of it.

Being a HUGE A.P fan, as he has in my oppinion the best pedigree (particularly the female side) of any horse EVER, I am naturally interested in his sons. I think it is just a matter of time until Sky Mesa breaks out ala Dynaformer. Getting the correct mares is a problem, however, as now anybody with his stud fee can "get to him". There really is NO need for a "pedigree analyst" at many of the big farms, Three Chimneys in this case being no exception.

With the different nicking tools available, an appropriate mare will make a prospective breeder's chance much better. I like Goldmine for this purpose. Within minutes, one can learn that A.P. over Mr. P has been very successful with 48 of A.P.'s 118 horses who have won at least 1 G3 race have Mr. P. on the bottom. Numbers are assigned rather than letter grades for the succes or lack by the VGS score. Mr. P's sons can then be tested with Seeking the Gold having an excellent score of 11.08. Forty-Niner has a very nice 7.48. Fappiano has a 3.82 and his son, Rubiano has an outrageous score of 21.61.

Pleasant Colony has a very nice score of 5.36. Broad Brush on the bottom of A.P. has not produced any horse who has won at least 1 G3 race.

I think Sky Mesa has a very promising future ahead of him and predict that he will have a 6 figure stud fee within 7 or 8 years - faster if he gets the right mares.

The Indy-Broad Brush cross is actually more of a Pulpit-Broad Brush cross.
