Wow! Sky Mesa only got 45! It doesn't take long for KY breeders to jump ship, when a stallion starts out slow. If he would remain at 15K just one more year (2009) to help me out, that would be appreciated!
Very unlikely, I know!
I see Tribal Rule got 155 mares! That has to be the leader for California! He's worth every bit of $7,500 not the mention the 5K he stood for in 2008.

you gotta give it to coolmore
it's one thing to have chapel royal, giants causeway, and lion heart all in the top 5.
it's another thing to actually sign up close to 600 people to actually lay down the bucks to bred to thes epeople.
in ohter words, they might over bred, but if only every farm were so lucky to have this problem

i'm sure they don't, but you still have to find hundreds of people to bred to them.
yes, every GC isn't paying 125k but don't make it sound like 80% of them are being sold for subway combo meals or something. they are stil paying real money and it takes a hell of a farm to line up that type of clientale.

The point I (and I *think* LB) was making is that Coolmore doesn't in fact deal that much. They do deal on some stallions, but it would be incorrect to assume that nobody is paying anywhere near advertised fees. And, BDW, I totally agree with your point about how impressive it is that they can get the numbers. Admittedly, they don't screen those mares so much, but they still get them.

again guys.. it's business.
horse racing stallion farms aren't the only business on earth that sell items at below a reduced fee.
but again, look at that list, and like 3 of the top 5 list are coolmore stallions.
even if they do take a little off the top on each one, that is still a boatload of money. it's not like Giant's Causeways seasons are going for 15 grand or something. and I sold cars long enough to knowt hat when you are get up to 6 figures, you are dealing with a different type of buyer than the 15k 10k buyer. there isn't much difference between 110k and 125k. but the difference beween 5k and 20k will put a farm out of business. if that makes any sense.
when I sold cars, the higher priced item you get up, the more the price isn't the major concern. I sold infiniti's and when you start talking about loaded to the brim QX56's you'd insult someone by talking about a "discount". there was a 6k rebate on it I don't think I ever told cusotmers about, they never bothered asking.
I can see them pimpinp out lion heart, but tale of the cat, giant's causeway, etc, i would be very suprised if the vast majority of them weren't right around what they said they were. and GC's sell very well too

if not, that's impressive.
I mean, you have like smarty jones when they made a huge error in judding the interest in their stallion.
but more times than not I doubt that the farms budget too much. there are stallions, and at the top of the line stallions the top of the line mares HAVE to go somewhere. you can't take them to the mazda dealership or anything. so although you need mares, in a sense, the mares really DO need the stallions. espically the good ones.
