Worth Breeding to?

Postby dray33 » Wed Oct 22, 2008 1:27 pm

I know that if this particular filly does exceptionally well on the track, she is "breeding-worthy", but she is (to me) very light on pedigree. She has won 4 out of 8, and yesterday posted her best beyer, a 93! She is on the way to being some kind of stakes winner (minor? Graded?), if all goes well. But race record aside... does this filly have anything of interest on the page? She is FEARLESS LEADER ( http://www.pedigreequery.com/fearless+leader3 ), and I wonder what some of you pedigree people think about her lineage. Anything there? Thanks for your thoughts...

I think she's worth a shot for sure. She's from a very good Florida family, and has the successful regional sire Silver Buck in her pedigree, as well as the nice horses Wayne's Crane and Poncho's Dream Girl. Plus since she's a good filly, she has a lot of value as a racing prospect.

Thanks Chicago. I couldn't find Silver Buck in her pedigree... progeny of one of the horses in her pedigree perhaps? What I found interesting is the close inbreeding to LUCKY DEBONAIR who won the Kentucky Derby (?!&%*?) , Santa Anita and Blue Grass... who knew?

dray, if you look at her catalogue page:

http://obssales.com/juncatalog/2006/449.PDF

you can see that her 2nd dam is a half-sister to Silver Buck. :)

Silver True is the dam of Silver Buck. If you could acquire her affordably, she'd be one to try for sure. I don't know that I would ever breed her to a stallion over $40,000, but I guess that would be up to you.

She's won 3 of her last 4, but usually a pretty good four year old will run through their conditions quickly, because they're running against horses that have been stuck at the level for a while. She'll likely run in a stake next time, and if she can get back to the 93, she'll obviously earn black type, but it won't be so easy getting the lead against the faster fillies. A good spot for her may be the stakes at Tampa, they usually run a few in the $75k range for Florida breds.

I own her already chicago... we got her as a 2yo (well, 50% actually). She has never been an "on the lead" type filly, so this race perplexed us a bit. Also, the trainer has said from day one she will be better at two turns. He full sister, Prospect of Love, was a decent horse too. I am not sure what the other 50% partner would want to do after racing. Maybe get her in foal and sell her? Not sure.

Thanks for the catalog page LB. It's actually better than I remember. Funny how the ones you would never expect could run, can run  So far, sound as a pound. Fun to watch.

Oh well that's even better that you own her already. 8)

Congrats on your success so far, and good luck with hopefully gaining some black type with her in her next few races.

Dray:

If you decide not to breed her, contact me, I'd certainly breed her.

Now the question is where to go for a stallion? Already tons of Mr. P, ND etc in her pedigree. What price range for a stallion so we can play?

Hey hpkingjr. I haven't a clue what the other partner wants, she is absolutely racing at 5, so I have a year to decide with him. If it were me, for sh*ts n' giggles, I would say: If she wins black type, spend somewhere between, oh, let's say 10-50k?

Without a doubt shes worth breeding. if she can pick up some black type here and there i think she will sell better.

Holy Bull
Offlee Wild both as outcross sires.

I know I am a little prejudiced currently over Offlee Wild.
