Tin Cup Chalice doing well after 24-hour travel for Japan Cup Dirt
Tin Cup Chalice, the Finger Lakes Horse of the Year and one of three contenders from the United States scheduled to run in the Grade 1 Japan Cup Dirt, arrived at Narita Airport on Thursday.
The 3-year-old Crusader Sword gelding arrived in Narita Airport at 8:52 a.m. and was transported to the JRA Horseracing School Quarantine Center in Shiroi City at 12:48 p.m. Tin Cup Chalice is in fine condition after a 24-hour travel from his home stable.
“It was his first long-distance flight, but he is not showing any fatigue and is doing great. He has good appetite and I’m just relieved,” said groom Jan Keuer. “It’s his first day here, so we’ll only walk him around. We’ll enter the track from tomorrow and begin light training. If all goes well here (at Shiroi), we’ll give him one hard workout before we move to Hanshin Racecourse.”
Tin Cup Chalice swept the "Big Apple Triple" for New York-bred three-year-olds. He was presented with the horse of the year honors from the Finger Lakes Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association awards on Nov. 16.
The Japan Cup Dirt, which had traditionally been run the day before the Japan Cup, will be held as the last leg of the “Japan Autumn International” – a four-race series with a total purse of more than 1.2 billion yen – at Hanshin Racecourse on Dec. 7, one week after the Japan Cup at Tokyo. The Japan Cup Dirt will have total prize money of 277.9 million yen.

El Camino - Can you tell those of us who are international dateline/time challenged - exactly when Tin Cup's big race will 'start' - in Eastern Standard Time. AM I correct that it will be a day earlier (or later) in the U.S than it is scheduled for in Japan. Sorry I have to ask but I can't find it on the internet....and don't want to miss getting to watch him run on the other side of the globe! I called the local track for their simulcasting schedule and got no-where with this inquiry - you'd think with live racing canceled they could at least handle this aspect of their business but, no!
Saw on TVG over the weekend that they will be covering the race - did a time conversion (love Google) - 10pm New York time on Saturday the 6th is Noon, Sunday the 7th in Japan. Nothing on the TVG site as of now. Will keep watching the lower corner on TVG to see if they have more exact info. GO TCC!!

Things are going well here, I get the feeling the locals consider Tin Cup the "wiseguy" horse, still a long shot but a good bet because of how well he is training. The press conference was held with about 35 reporters asking questions. This sport is on par with baseball here.
The banquet was amazing as well. They introduced us and had us come out on stage and they played a video of all the entrants. It was very stirring to see our little guy up on such a big screen. We got the 8 post in a 16 horse field. Returning champion Vermillion will certainly be the favorite although I have not seen any morning line odds. Handicapping is a little difficult as well as the past performance sheet is different.
