Windswept?

Postby Bohemia » Sat Mar 14, 2009 9:09 am

A friend of mine had a filly born last week and when I asked if she had any pictures she said the filly was "windswept" and so wouldn't be sending along any pics for a while. I didn't want to sound like a total idiot but what the heck does this mean?

It means crooked, with both legs turned in the same direction, ie: the left foreleg turns out and right one turns in, or vice versa.

It is an angular limb deformity. Generally caused by the position of the legs while in utero. Below is a link to a front end windswept foal. I have never seen one like this in front. I have seen probably a half dozen foals that were windswept behind, however. One was so bad the whole back half of the foal was shaped like a ). All grew out of it completely with time.
