14-3 fillies

Postby AscotStud » Mon Apr 06, 2009 12:13 am

Fillies are still holding a dominant lead as Chris foaled a Whiskey Wisdom filly for a client yesterday. My last count was off, we only have 5 more to go now, so it looks like the girls will rule the farm for 2009.

It's 13 fillies, 5 colts, so far at the farm where my mares live. Lots of people seem to be having a filly year.

looks like the 2012 Oaks will be a little tougher to win than usual, but the Derby has fewer to draw from...I'm holding my breath for our boys.

We haven't seen a major sex bias this year but mares do seem to be carrying longer than normal, in some cases, by a month or more than their usual gestations.

And congrats on the Whiskey Wisdom. I've always liked that horse and have kicked around the idea of sending a mare up to him. Problem is, I'd want a filly and would almost certainly get a colt.

ASB, our mares all went long this year--though thankfully not as long as a month. They're also taking longer to start cycling again after they foal. We have two mares that foaled in early and mid-Feb that haven't been covered yet.
