Malibu Moon

One of the most consistent runner producing sons that A.P. Indy has. Does he have any sons at stud? I realize that he's producing some excellent running geldings like Declan's Moon but are any of his stallion sons at stud? How old is Malibu Moon anyways?

He's 12. He doesn't have any notable sons at stud that I know of, maybe none at all. I have a Malibu Moon broodmare from his first crop. That was a heckuva crop - 53 runners, 44 winners, 13 2-yo-old winners, and 7 stakes winners. Similar numbers from his second crop - no wonder he was whisked off to Ky.

The Pon boys at Country Life did a good job selecting mares for MM's first crop.

According to the BloodHorse stallion register, Malibu Moon has one son standing at stud: Randy's Moon who stands for $2,500 at Square D Training Stables in New Mexico.

For the amount of dough they're getting for him now you would expect to see a few good sons at stud before he's through.

Seems that his best runners were gelded (Declan's Moon, Ah Day, etc.). Maybe Essenceofthemoon could go to stud eventually? Seems like a fair regional prospect.

so far this year his get have a 25% winner to starter ratio and a average earning per starter of around $10k. Not very impressive for a $40k fee.

So, what was his 2008 average earnings per starter?? and winners to starters?

The top stallion list is in order of total winnings which means the stallions withn the most starters have a huge advantage.. Average earnings per starter, while not perfect is a much better measure .

about 7% stake winners from foals, an AEI of 1.8 to a CI of 1.6. Seems like okay value for his stud fee. At that fee you'd have to really believe the mare was a physical match to him. In that fee range, Lemon Drop Kid looks like a better option (or is that comparing apples to oranges).
