Smarty Jones and the "G1 filly"

Heidilady, I like your last post. But when you say not to dog him, can you think of another young stallion prospect who retired with a stud fee of $100,000 who got off to such a poor start? Here we are halfway through 2009, his oldest foals are 3-year-olds, and he hasn't had even one listed winner in the United States. What is the outlook for his progeny at the yearling sales this summer/fall? The problem with moving him out of Kentucky is that any farm that agrees to stand him will have to put up with his fan base, who'll be descending in droves.
hi HR LLC
I found the gelding's move to be quite impressive, but it doesn't surprise me to see a 3-year-old in mid-June of his 3-year-old year come from off the pace.
Glen Hill Farm has for years, bred, raised, raced and/or sold some VERY fine horses. Records may indicate their home-bred winner sold at auction, but I don't believe he ever changed hands. Chicago78 might shed some light on the subject.
One thing's for sure, the gelding won impressively in his first-ever start...and Glen Hill has done and continues to do a fine job.

we hope he can be a nice horse. very crooked but he moves through it pretty well and is a big, strong, confident horse. they completely ran away from him early, which we kind of expected, but he gathered himself up and came running nicely, which was fun to see. if he stays sound, he should win some races.

hi chicago78
He appeared to handle himself well, and finished like a potentially VERY nice horse.
Was his front end responsible for delays in getting him to the starting gate sooner?
He looks like he carries a LOT of flesh.
Gotta believe he could handle 7 furlongs; and more likely than not a mile...and possibly beyond.
Seems like there's always an "if"
Best.

while his lack of stakes hosses is not good; Smarty jones offspring this year. What do you think his hosses winning percentage is in North America. 5%? 15%? 20%?
Actually is a nice robust 23% and 50% in the money
Not bad for a "flop" in the breeding shed.
99 starts--23 wins--15 seconds--12 Thirds

bdw is correct. Smarty's offspring are often winning in "maiden events".
In other words, maiden claimers- low level ones at that.
One well bred Smarty colt fianlly broke his maiden after many attempts in a maiden claimer for a tag of 25K going long.
He came back in his next race in a starter allowance for 3 & up that have run for tag of 25K and never won 2 races lifetime.
He got clobbered. One horse, one story but it unfortunately tells the tale of many of Smarty's runners.
