Twin Foals!

Postby Tap The Mint » Sat Jul 25, 2009 4:51 pm

Hi, The little twins are doing well and little Rory is finally starting to really take off. Reggie the bigger one is growing by leaps and bounds and thriving like a normal single foal. Little Rory is trying to catch up. He's had to have I.V. fluids several times and be supplemented with Foal Lac and is now drinking the Foal Lac from a bucket free choice, so he sips from the mare and sips from the bucket. That seems to have really perked him up. His tiny little legs were very weak and we were afraid of him bending them but they seem to be strengthening now and soon he will be able to exercise lightly outside. I keep a photo album updated almost daily on my website if you'd like to see them.
Thanks so much for all your thoughts and prayers. So far they seem to be working. They are 13 days old today!

Thanks for the update!

Would splinting help support the legs for a period of time for exercise then taking them off? Just wondering....

Twin Foals!!

Postby Tap The Mint » Tue Jul 28, 2009 7:07 pm

Hi, Yes, actually splinting would probably help but he is so fragile that if the splint wasn't put on perfectly and padded really well it could make a sore which then would cause another more serious problem of infection so I hesitate to do it. With each day he is getting much stronger and is able to take limited exercise now and his legs are actually straightening up so I think he'll be past that danger soon. We are taking them out for regular exercise now and I'll update the photo album in the next day or so. They are doing great.

Wonderful news Tap The Mint. I know how it is when you have a foal not doing well - glad to hear/see he is doing better every day. Pretty soon he'll be kicking his bubba's rear :)

Twin Foals! Update!

Postby Tap The Mint » Sat Aug 08, 2009 6:45 pm

Hi, I just thought I'd update everyone on the twins' progress. They will be four weeks old tomorrow and are doing much better. Little Rory is so energetic and strong now and his legs aren't bending anymore and he's growing straight and strong. He's really plumped up a lot and runs and plays continuously. Reggie is very regal looking and is also growing by leaps and bounds. He is the size of a regular 'single' foal. We supplement them with milk replacer and have a bucket hanging on their door which they sip from when they want to and sip from the mare also. They are both starting to eat solid foods with the mare too and pick at the hay. I am still adding photos to their photo album and have posted a couple of small videos on Youtube. There are links from my website at www.oakwoodfarmtb.com
Thanks so much for all your kind thoughts and prayers to get them through.

Twin Foals! Update!

Postby Tap The Mint » Wed Aug 19, 2009 1:13 pm

Hi,
Just a little update on the TWINS...They are doing GREAT! They are now 5 1/2 weeks old. Reggie has grown six inches taller and Rory four inches and both are vigorous and healthy. They go outside for playtime daily and back inside at night. Miss is a fantastic mom and watches out for both of them although seems to show a little partiality to Reggie, the bigger boy. We keep a bucket of milk in the stall and they both sip from the bucket when they want to and sip from the mare also. I've updated their photo album and you can click on it from my website www.oakwoodfarmtb.com
We are going to try to post some more video of them when we get a chance. They are so darn cute it's hard to get work done.

Twin Foals Update

Postby Tap The Mint » Thu Nov 19, 2009 1:40 pm

Hi, Just wanted to update you all on the twins, Rory and Reggie. They are now FOUR months old, healthy and decked out in their finest winter fur. They are so darn cute and Reggie is still considerably bigger than Rory although Rory is the 'tough' one. He rules the roost and certainly holds his own at feeding time. They both are eating grain and supplements and playing outside daily. Rory runs continuously, (the thoroughbred side of the family). Reggie is the regal one, (takes after his dad, Rodioso) and stands tall and erect and practices his dressage movements. They are as different as day and night although both have wonderful personalities and dispositions. We are so very blessed to have two beautiful foals from this breeding. I keep photos at my website if you'd like to see them. www.oakwoodfarmtb.com

That is fantastic! You and your mare did an excellent job in raising the beautiful boys :D A very happy ending to a story that could have ended much diiferently.
