Hey there, I for one will be cheering for Careless Jewel even though she has the task of going to do battle in Zenyatta's back yard. Trainer Josie Carroll took a lot of stick for losing a mare a few years ago in California for about $50,000 who went on to win a Breeder's Cup race. Who knows what the circumstances were at that time? Josie continues to run an impeccable shedrow and was the first female to train a Queen's Plate winner. The win in the Alabama was emphatic but only time will tell how the form stands up. Careless Jewel seems to have a good cruising speed and excellent turn of foot ,best wishes to both of them.

Since I'm pretty close to the situation (as Josie is my trainer, along with knowing Vern and his wife), the incident with Maryfield was just plain bad luck - they were just trying to pull out an easy win by dropping her in $50K and got caught.

As for Careless Jewel, she's a lovely filly, but had some throat issues that have obviously been sucessfully cleared up. The plan before the Alabama was that she'd race in the Selene here at Woodbine (to get her third start here, to qualify for a chamionship) and then off for the BC.... here's hoping we get it!!

carless jewel is a very very talanted filly, she's just a late bloomer (like big z).

and she's proven over synethics.

I am a firm believer that big z has lost a step and that her undefeated streak is more beucase of who she is facing than her brilliance. jsut my opinion, and she won't beat carless jewel running like she did in the clement hirsh

Heck, I think Careless Jewel might beat both Z and Rachel.

Chef de race gave her a -91 PF. I haven't seen one of those in a while!!!!! You can comb the PFs and not see one like that.

Rachels was -75 in Mothergoose, -81 in Ky Oaks, -61 in Preakness, and -58 in the Fantasy.

BDW
So what your saying is that a dirt horse can beat a filly that is running at her home track on the biggest day in horse racing??
By the way its synthetic--- not dirt.
Its different in California.

Hi Karen,

I think BDW was saying that Careless Jewel is proven on synthetics (she's two for two on it, at Woodbine), as well as on the dirt. I will say thought, that the synthetic tracks in California do play somewhat differently than the polytrack at Woodbine... will be an interesting race, to say the least!!

I understand that but why not Internallyflawless?
Currently running on the synthetics @ Ca.
The BC at Santa Anita - look at what happened last year. Euros come and dominate. Why not look at the Euros.

you aren't paying attention. Carless Jewel is not a "dirt horse". she's a synethic horse that beat the crap out of dirt horses over a dirt track.

she has won 2 graded dirt races but her first 3 races of her career were over the fake.

and.. SHE'S GRAY!

her pedigree screams fake even if she hadn't run over it. Tapit is a fake sire. Storm Cats run very well over the fake.

Daisy that is what I was saying u just said it better :)
