Swain to Ascot Stud in Ontario

Postby AscotStud » Thu Oct 01, 2009 11:15 am

4 time Grade 1 winner Swain will stand at Ascot Stud in Ontario for 2010. He was a Multiple Horse of the Year and Graded winner from 3 to 6 with earnings of over $3.7 million. 90% of his progeny earnings of over $10 million have come on Turf and Synthetic which should make him a perfect fit for the Ontario program and Woodbine which features turf and Polytrack. He will stand for $3,500 and multiple booking discounts are available for him and also may be grouped with bookings to Aljabr.

Please PM if anyone has any Shadwell promo DVD's with Aljabr or Swain's races, thanks.

Congratulations on the addition of this very important horse.

I have had a feeling for a couple of years now that this guy might turn out to be a very good broodmare sire going forward. I realize that this may not be your primary purpose in standing him, but a lot of signs point me to that possibility.

Best of luck with him.

I always loved this horse and hope he does turn into a great broodmare sire. The numbers don't support it yet, but I think they may in the future.

Good luck with him!

Best of luck with him!

One of my mares' best runner was sired by Swain so I've always had a soft spot for him.

Any particular reason why you think he would make a good broodmare sire?

Congratulations!
Look at Niagara now, probably more $ won in 4 stallions than all of the ones up the highway put together!!!

Congrats! Best of luck with this lovely guy.

Isn't he the smart alec who bucked off Dettori during the post parade of the Breeder's Cup when whacked with the stick? :)

But the unfortunate part is the big boys will not venture down into Niagara to breed. :(

Give him all the Nijinsky you possibly can. The more the merrier.

Almost all of his better runners have Nijinsky somewhere in there.

Swain was the broodmare sire of last Thursday's Listed Noel Murless Stakes winner Akmal. And speaking of stakes winners, Aljabr who has been Ontario’s leading winners from starters sire this year has had 2 stakes winners in the last week. Al Kadir who was G1 placed in Argentina earlier this year won a G3 on the 27th and Musaalem who is a multiple handicap winner has won his first stake the Listed Guisborough Stakes on Oct 3rd.

A Swain Broodmare Sire update, AKMAL has won the (G3) Jockey Club Cup to add to his listed stakes win, ROSEN OPERA has placed in the Prix Occitanie (Listed) and the Prix Casimir Delamarre (Listed), and IMPERTINENT MAN was 2nd in the Premio Luis Larrain Prieto (Listed) and 3rd in the Carreras del 20 Stakes (Listed).

Pictured below
Al Kadir by Aljabr, who was a G2 winner by 3-1/2 on Dec 20th, he is now a 5 time Graded Stakes Winner

I love Swain! He's my all time favorite racehorse...we are lucky enough to have a 2009 colt out of our Sharpen Up mare that looks just like him and has plenty of attitude (photo of him is in my avatar picture). :) Give him some carrots and pats for us Ascot!

Swain has always been one of my favorites too. Although he may not be a fashonable horse, he was tough. I like that sort.
Hope he may sire many winners!

Mareen who do you mean by the "big boys"? My own feeling is, if people feel he is what they are looking for.. they will travel no matter what..

Most of the people who contact us do come down to breed, but we do run into people who won't shell out the few extra bucks it costs to get to us. To me it doesn't make sense. Save $1 or 2 hundred bucks to breed to a horse you would rather not. I have been charged almost as much as most people charge to breed North of TO from a satellite farm than most shippers charge to get to us, so???
