Why wouldn't he make a good stallion prospect?

Some one on another board said that no matter what races he wins, this year or next, he wouldn't make a good stud prospect. Why?

Yes I think a better term would be that Jackson Bend won't be a "commercial" stallion prospect.

But that doesn't mean he couldn't be a "good" stallion prospect.

Jackson Bend shouldn't feel too bad, even if he retired today having never competed in a graded stake he'd be way more popular than multiple Grade I winner Vineyard Haven would be as a stallion prospect.

No way. They thought they were buying themselves a Kentucky Derby win (same as Lapenta and his purchase of Jackson Bend). At the end of Vineyard Haven's racing career they'll dump him to anybody that'll take him and he'll never see a Darley mare. Did they every breed anything to Express Tour? He was another lightly bred one that they bought for big bucks years ago thinking he could get them that elusive Kentucky Derby win.

At the moment he'd be hard-pressed to find somebody to even support him as a regional horse. He's won three restricted stakes and one open listed stake.

If he were a filly, that would have been enough to punch his ticket. Not so for a colt, not when there are so many good stallions out there.

If he were to knock out some good wins in graded company over his career, he'd get more attention. But not now.

Yes, he could be a regional sire st this point in the $2-3.5k range if he never ran again. A graded win adds to his value, but he will most likely stay in the regional market upon retirement baring anything drastic. There are much worse that have bred 100 plus...see The Green Monkey and Mr Sekiguchi

In answer to the OP's question, it's his pedigree. Notwithstanding, if he was a GSW, near me and priced right, I'd try to figure out what mare to send...

You've never heard anyone discussing his stud prospects other than us.

Lots of geldings aren't reported as geldings.

I know that Mr. Green who was narrowly beaten by Jackson Bend in the first two legs of the stallion stakes, and is listed as a colt, is in fact a gelding (and I'm sure of that).

Kind of doubt he's a gelding, he's been getting alot of press lately and a majority intrest has been purchased recently, so you would think somebody would have mentioned it by now.
