RACHEL ALEXANDRA - What are the odds that in 2010 she...

Postby FOS » Sun Dec 06, 2009 2:23 pm

hi guys

When it comes to Rachel Alexandra and the mile and a quarter distance, just about everyone seems to have an opinion...some VERY strong.

That said...how about if we talk ODDS, and I'm not talking post time odds. Here goes...

What would YOU set the odds at Right Now ...

#1/ ... that Rachel Alexandra will race at a mile and a quarter in 2010?

#2/ ... that Rachel Alexandra will win a race (other than the BC Classic) at a mile and a quarter in 2010?

#3/ ... that Rachel Alexandra will win the Breeders' Cup Classic in 2010?

- - - - - -
I know there's a whole lot that can affect odds...and that things can and often do change, but what would YOU set the odds at right now.

Thoughts?

Respectfully

3) 8-1

Jess hears the whiners, he'll make sure she goes 1 1/4.

I don't think she'll go 10f against males and probably won't go 10f against her own in a G1. If they do go 10f, they'll spot her well. She's super talented, but anything over 9f and she's shortening stride quickly.

" She's super talented, but anything over 9f and she's shortening stride quickly."

Any horse would be getting tired after setting fractions like she did.

She only raced over 9f once. So I guess when Zenyatta fans say "She's super talented, but anything over 9f and she's shortening stride quickly." they forget to add, but probably meant to say:
The one time Rachel ran over 9 furlongs came after a barn and trainer switch, and was only 15 days after winning the Grade 1 Oaks at Churchill, in record time, by a record 20 ¼ lengths, then shipped to Pimlico where her strides shortened so quickly.

Quality wise the 1 3/16 of The Preakness is many times better than 1 1/4 of any lady only.

Try to slice it any way you'd like, but she was running out of gas in the Preakness (against many horses who had a more strenuous campaign against better) in a big way and then was about to be passed in the Woodward by a rather average handicap horse as G1 winners go.

I'm really unclear why it's so offensive to certain fans when it's pointed out that 10f is probably not her best distance? All indications point to that being the case.

With her proven class and quality, anyone would be a fool if you think she'll ever face the boys again without being targeted. She will be pushed and nothing will come easy. They won't allow it. To me, that leaves her extremely vulnerable going 10f against top males.

I'm also unclear what bringing up Zenyatta has anything to do with this thread? A few of you are so caught up in campaigning for one or the other that the blinders you've put on yourself are leaving you combative and bullish.

I've purposely stayed out of the HOY debates for a while because I don't care who wins. In my mind, they've both accomplished things that have no equal.

Just be grateful we have two amazing horses who proved champion quality and whose connections raced them longer than most would.

That would depend on who's in the race. A weak crop of 3 year olds isn't going to trump a strong group of older mares.

Then her Woodward spoke volumes...albeit not as strenous as BC Classic..I rated it the best landmark for unrestricted
1 1/8 in the country. Anyway lady only rarely runs at 1 1/4.

We should see good show from her..and hopefully wins BC Ladies to silence her critics..for the time being..give title to
the one who has proven...not the one going to...hope she will get it..next year.
